cultivate源自拉丁语cultus耕作、犁地，是与农业有关的词汇，它的兄弟culture早都脱离农门变成文化、文明。不过cultivate始终还有农耕的影子，与汉语类似，很多农业上的耕作、培养词汇最终都延伸出品行、素质的培养教化。develop在英语里最初含义是动词envelop(封、包)的反义词，意为解封/展开，后来引申为开发、拓展，是不是人发迹了就一定要出来得瑟一下吧？嘿嘿.... 在表达养成的含义时，developed几乎没有素质养成之意，更多层面是指一个地区/机构/体制的发展或发达，反观cultivated，则指随着教育培养，人的素质或涵养处于比较高的境界。简言之，develop开发物质文明，cultivate建设精神文明。
