亲爱的同学们，今天是赵校长英语小课堂坚持日更的第59天。 一天一个英语小知识，相信日积月累的力量。 Swear /Oath/Pledge/Vow这几个词都有发誓、誓言的意思，你知道他们的区别吗？ （1）swear：动词，(尤指对上帝，上天)发誓 Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.--你能发誓讲实话，讲出全部实话，而且只讲实话吗？ （2）pledge：动词/名词，保证、承诺 ①动词：The governmentpledged their support for the plan. --政府保证支持这项计划。 ②名词：Has he fulfilled his election pledge?--他履行竞选时的承诺了吗？ （3）oath：名词，誓言，通常指：个人正式的宣誓 He took an oath of loyalty to the government.--他宣誓效忠政府。 （4）Vow：动词：发誓；名词：往往指宗教方面的誓言 ①动词：Shevowed never to speak to him again.--她发誓再也不和他说话了。 ②名词：I made a silent vow to be more careful in the future.--我暗暗发誓，日后要倍加小心。 总结： swear：发誓，口语中最常用， pledge：保证，承诺，书面语中常用； oath：宣誓，正式场合才用； vow：名词宗教中用，动词发誓，口语中=swear。

诺言和承诺都可以用promise如果是强调发誓，则可以用swear或者vow.vow则又含有诅咒的意思。由于西方文化的关系，根据圣经里所说，你们不要随便向人起誓。所以，promise和swear的使用在正式场合要分清。
