七叶树别名：桫椤树、梭椤子、天师栗、开心果、猴板栗形态：
落叶乔木，高可达25m。树皮灰褐色，片状剥落。小枝粗壮，栗褐色，光滑无毛；冬芽大，具树脂。掌状复叶对生，小叶5－7片，倒卵状长椭圆形至长椭圆状倒披针形，长8－16cm，先端渐尖，基部锲形，缘具细锯齿，侧脉13-17对，仅背面脉上疏生柔毛，小叶柄长5-17mm。花小，花瓣4，不等大，白色，上面2瓣常有桔红色或黄色斑纹，雄蕊通常7；成直立密集圆锥花序，近圆柱形，长20-25cm。杂性（花序基部多两性花），白色，芳香。蒴果球形或倒卵形，密生疣点，直径3－4cm，黄褐色，粗糙，无刺，也无尖，内含1或2粒种子，形如板栗，种脐大，占种子一半以上。花期5月；果熟期9~10月

Its U.S. postal abbreviation is OH; its old-style abbreviation was O. Natives of Ohio are known as Ohioans or Buckeyes, after the buckeye tree.
