Jilin University was founded in 1946 and became the first comprehensive university established by the Communist Party of China after the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1952. It was listed as a national key university by the State Council in 1960.
In 2000, the former Jilin University, Jilin University of technology, Bethune Medical University, Changchun University of science and technology and Changchun University of Posts and Telecommunications merged to form a new Jilin University. In 2004, the former Quartermaster University of the Chinese people's Liberation Army was transferred and incorporated.
By March 2021, the university has 6 campuses and 7 campuses, covering an area of more than 6.11 million square meters and a construction area of 2.76 million square meters; It has 52 colleges and 139 undergraduate majors; There are 6436 teachers and 69359 full-time students.
