为什么叫英文

英国其实全名叫大不列颠及北爱尔兰联合王国，是由英格兰、苏格兰、威尔士和北爱尔兰组成的联合王国，英文名：The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland（简称Britain）。 其中英格兰（England）,苏格兰（Scotland）,威尔士（Wales）这三个地区是连在一起的，而北爱尔兰（Northern Ireland）是跟其他三个分开的，位于爱尔兰岛，所以你看英国的全称就能看出来。只不过英国首都在英格兰的伦敦，所以大多数英国人自称自己叫"English“，但北爱尔兰人很讨厌被外国人叫做"English",正确的说，他们叫自己"Welsh"。 总的来说，所有英国人都叫"British"，所以你见了英国人，要是分不清对方是英国哪里的人，为了保险起见最好叫他"British"。

这个是最开始的人规定的，不过那些人早就不在了。。。。。。。人为规定，没办法。

England is said to be named after the Angles who were named after their homeland Angeln whose name meant "narrow" or "bent". And actually (I just thought of this - haven't read it anywhere) it could be a description of Britain's narrowness between seas.
