愚公移山Mr. Fool Wants to Move the MountainThere were two high mountains between Jizhou in the south and Heyang in the north. One was called Taihang Mountain and the other Wangwu Mountain. Both of the mountains were very high. 冀州以南衡阳以北有两座大山，一座叫太行山另一座叫王屋山，两座山都很高。Just to the north of the mountains lived an old man called Mr. Fool who was nearly 90 years old. With the two high mountains just in front of his house, his family and he had to walk a long way around the mountains whenever they had something to do on the other side of the mountains. 就在山的北面住着一位Fool先生，老人差不多九十岁了。因为门前有这两座山，他们全家人有事出门的时候只能绕出很远的路。One day, Mr. Fool called all his family together to talk about how to move the two mountains to other places. His wife said, "An old man like you cannot even move a small hill, not to mention the two high mountains. Even if you can, where can you throw so much earth and stone?" 有一天，Fool先生召集全家人开会讨论如何把两座大山移走，他的妻子说，你这样的老人一座小山都很难移走，更何况这么两座大山呢？即使你能，你要把这些土和石头都运到哪儿去呢？"The Bohai Sea is big enough to contain all the earth and stone," Mr. Fool said. Fool先生说：“渤海足够大能把土和石头装下。”So it was decided. His children started to dig the mountains, led by the old man Mr. Fool. 所以就决定了，他们的孩子们开始在老人的领导下移山。A man named Smart saw them working and tried to stop them, saying, "You are so silly! You're so old and weak that you can't even take away the grass and trees. How can you move the high mountains?" 有一位Smart先生看到他们移山试图阻止他们说道：你太傻了，你这么老。身体又这么弱，甚至不能挪动草和树，又怎么能移开这么大座山呢？"You're wrong," Mr. Fool said with a sigh. "Look, my sons can continue my work after my death. When my sons die, my grandchildren will continue. So generations after generations, there's no end. But the mountains can't grow higher. Do you still say I can't move them away?" FOOL先生说：你错了，看，我死后我的儿子可以继续移。我的儿子死后，我的孙子死后，我的重孙子可以继续移山，所以一代一代接下去，一定可以把山移走的，但是山是不变大的，你仍然认为我不能成功移山吗？Later the Heaven God, upon learning of Mr. Fool’s story, was greatly moved. He then ordered another god to come down and take the two high mountains away. 后来，老天爷听到了FOOL先生的话，被深深地感动了，他就命令一个神仙下凡把两座山移走了。The story tells us that so long as one is determined and sticks to it long enough, anything can be done, no matter how difficult it is.故事告诉我们只要下定决心并且坚持不懈，什么难事都能取得成功。

Old Man Yu Gong and the Mountains Old man Yu Gong’s house had two big mountains in front of it.It caused him great inconvenience.So one day he said to his family:"I have decided to move those mountains." His wife said:"This is impossible.We’ve lived with them a long time.Let’s just put up with it."But the old man convinced his children to help him.The next day they started digging using hoes and baskets,and they hauled the dirt to the sea,far far away.Day in and day out they kept digging.A wise old man,Zhi Sou,upon seeing this said to Yu Gong:"You are old; you are trying to do the impossible." Yu Gong replied:"Yes,I am old and I will soon be dead,but I have children,and when they die,their children will carry on,and the mountain will get smaller and smaller.”And so Yu Gong and his family carried on,day after day,year after year,through summer and winter,until one day,God heard about it and was so moved by his determination that he sent his two sons to take the two mountains away.The moral of the story is that with determination anything can be achieved.

His children started to dig the mountains, led by the old man Yu Gong. 一天，愚公把全家人召集到一起，商量着把两座大山移走。妻子说：“凭你的力量，连一座小山丘也移不走，何况这两座大山呢？再说，你就是能移走，那土石往哪里放呢？”愚公说：“渤海那么大，可以把土石扔到渤海里去。” 说干就干，愚公带领子孙们挖起山来。河曲的智叟看见了，笑着阻止道：“你真是太傻了！以你的残年余力，连山上的一根草都动不了，更何况大山？”愚公叹了口气说：“你错了。你想想，我死了以后还有我的儿子，我的儿子又有儿子，子子孙孙没有穷尽！可是山上的土石不会增加，还怕挖不走吗？” A man named Zhi Sou saw them working and tried to stop them, saying, "You are so silly!
