As we slowly drove down the street on that cold December evening we spotted the porch light. "This must be the house." I told our "Positive Teens In Action" group. We pulled up in front of an older home with the porch light glowing. We gathered up our song books, walked up the steps, and knocked on the door. We heard a faint voice from inside say, “Come on in. The door is open." We opened the door.
在那个寒冷的12月份的夜晚我们开车在路上慢慢行驶时看到了门廊的灯光，我跟我们这个“积极行动的青年小队”说：“一定就是这家了。”我们把车停在一栋旧房子前，门廊灯光很亮。我们拿出歌集，走上台阶敲了敲门，听到里面传来一个虚弱的声音：“进来吧，门开着呢”，我们推开了门。
There in a rocking chair sat an elderly woman with a big smile on her face. "I've been expecting you." she said weakly. Ruth was one of our Meals On Wheels stops I had arranged; along with the usual church members who enjoyed carolers. We handed Ruth the basket of goodies the teens had assembled earlier that evening. Then I asked Ruth what carols she would like to hear. Ruth's face was beaming as she joined in singing each song.

As we hugged Ruth good-bye she said to me with tears glistening in her eyes, “The day you called I was still in bed. I had just finished praying. I asked God if it would be possible to have some Christmas Carolers come to my home and sing this year. Thank you for being the answer to my Christmas prayer."
我们跟Ruth拥抱说再见时，她眼睛里闪着泪光对我说：“你打电话那天我还躺在床上，刚刚做完祷告，我问上帝今年能否让唱圣诞颂歌的人来我家唱颂歌。感谢你使我梦想成真。”
Wow, what an awesome experience to have the opportunity to be the answer to someone's Christmas prayer.
哇哦，能使别人的祷告得以实现是多棒的一次经历呀。
Change is considerably easier when you have a full complement of supporting partners and unlimited resources. But, since very often it is the shock of a death, divorce or some other life tragedy that unceremoniously tosses us out of our comfort zone to fend for ourselves, it can mean being forced to strike out alone which for many of us is the scariest part of all.
当你有很多合作伙伴和无尽的资源时，改变就更容易发生了。但是，由于这种变化往往是来自于身边的人去世的打击、离婚或是其他的一些人生悲剧，而且这些变化又毫无征兆地将我们赶出了自己的舒适圈，使我们不得不自己照顾自己，所以这样的变化也意味着我们要被迫独自面对很多事情，这也是很多人最害怕的事情。
Probably the most difficult thing about pursuing significant change is doing it when you don’t have the knowledge, financial or emotional tools available to make the process go smoothly.
也许，在进行显著改变时遇到的最困难的事情，就是即便对相关知识一无所知，也缺少财务支持或情感工具，却还是要顺利完成。
However, as difficult as it can be, sometimes reaching our full potential means working without a net. Or, as Tony Robbins says, "If you want to take the island, burn the f’ing boats!"
然而，不管有多难，有时想要达到我们潜能的极限，其实只需在工作时摆脱网络的束缚。换言之，正如托尼• 罗宾斯所说，“如果你想去岛上，就烧了这些该死的船!”
For those truly dedicated to their mission, having fewer resources and no backup or fallback plan can be a surprising blessing as it forces you to get creative and forge new paths.
而对于那些真正致力于完成自己使命的人来说，缺少资源、备份或应急计划都会被看作是一个意外之礼，因为这促使你变得更具创造力，懂得另辟蹊径。
I don’t know if it’s possible to leave this world with zero regrets. Because of the natural life cycles and the fact that sometimes it’s the tragedy that causes our awakenings we often have our epiphanies too late to avoid certain painful outcomes.
我不知道是否有可能在离开这个世界时不留任何遗憾。因为自然生命周期有限，也只有悲剧结局，才能让我们清醒，这使我们时常顿悟得太晚，以致于无法避免那些令人痛苦的结局。
However, it is indefensible to can claim ignorance to the possible ramifications of continued inaction. The choice belongs to each and every one of us. We all have the power to change both our thoughts and behavior thereby giving more intentional direction to the remainder of our lives.
然而，把持续的无作为所导致的后果归因为无知是站不住脚的。选择权在我们每一个人手中。我们都可以改变自己的思想和行为，去为之后的生活确立更明确的方向。
I Paid For A Young Woman's Groceries
我为一个女孩买了杂货
I was in line at Trader Joe's and the young woman in front of me had her card declined, she embarrassedly handed the cashier another card, which was also declined and then a final card that was approved for just $5.47.
我在乔氏超市连锁店排着队，排在我前面女孩的银行卡因为余额不足被退回了，于是她不好意思地递给收银员另一张卡，但还是因为同样的理由被退回了，最后她又拿出了一张卡，但余额显示只有5.47美元。
She asked the cashier to cancel the transaction. The cashier motions for manager. I smile and offer to pay the balance, which was $20 something dollars.
无奈之下，她只能让收银员取消交易。收银员示意了经理。我微笑了一下，然后帮女孩付了余款。
The woman was very thankful, the cashier was happy.
女孩很感激，收银员看到这一幕感到非常欣喜。
On my way out the manager handed me a bouquet of mixed flowers. He didn't say anything, just held the flowers out to me.
就在我走出超市时，经理递给了我一束花。但他什么也没说，只是把花递给了我。
I saw he was overcomed with emotion. I suspected that if he opened his mouth he would start to cry. I accepted the flowers with thanks and walked out feeling that, for just a few moments, the world had become a better place.
我看得出他是在克制情绪。我甚至怀疑他一旦张开嘴巴就会开始哭起来。我收下了花，并向他道谢。在我走出超市的那一刻，感觉世界都美好了起来。

l: yes. the sichuan cuisine is known for its spicy food. take something light. try the boiled mutton and carrot.
p: yummy. yummy.i have no idea you're such a good cook.
l: it's nice of you to say so. do you like sweet dish? try these sweet an sour ribs.
p: wonderful! i like it.
l: it is shanghai cuisine. a lot of sugar is used in shanghai food.
p: the food is out of this world!
l: so finish up your plate.
p: it is a super evening. thank you for having me over. i really expect the next time.
s: hey. lily. so many restaurants here, which cuisine do you prefer?
l: how about italian cuisine?i love the lasagna.
s: what does lasagna come with?
l: lasagna is a layered dish with sheets of lasagna noodles, beef, cheese, tomato sauce and bechamel sauce.
s: it is high in calories. i am on a diet. i have to keep an ear to the ground.
l: ok. do you like french food? i heard this french restaurant is famous for its foie gras.
s: i am opposed to eating foie gras. how about american food?
l: come on. american cuisine includes food from all over the world. it has no typical dish. how about indian cuisine?

l: you are so picky.
s: we are much of a muchness. how about also cold noodles and korean barbeque?
l: good. we could also have some kimchi and rich wine.
c: look. the pizza shop which opened yesterday is really crowded.
b: yeah. the food here must be delicious.
c: i want to have a try.
b: you know fast food isn't healthy enough. li does not compose a bed diet and is low in nutrition.
c: but it is quick and convenient. you know, fast-food culture is popular nowadays. in a fast-food restaurant, your food would be ready in a minute. many people don't want to waste their time in waiting for food. they want the food brought to them as soon as possible.
b: yeah. it doesn't matter that we have it only once in a while.
c: great.

My dayI get up at seven o'clock , and have breakfast at seven twenty . At half past seven ,I go to school by bus . There are four lessons in the morning . At twelve ,we have lunch .There are two lessons in the afternoon .I go home at four and do my homework at four thirty .At six ,I have dinner with my parents .
