Part1:Shakespeare’s comedy,“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, takes place during the summer solstice. This day has long been thought of as a time of magic. In the spirit1 of this tradition, the play is set in a dark forest2 full of fairies. In the play, Oberon, king of fairies, quarrels3 with his queen, Titania. Oberon tells his servant, Puck, to put a magic liquid on Titania’s eyes to make her fall in love with the first person she sees. At the same time, two young men and two young women are lost. Puck puts the liquid on the men’s eyes, and they both end up falling in love with one of the women. Puck then sees an actor4 named Bottom. For fun, Puck decides to turn Bottom’s headsintosa donkey’s. Soon after, Titania sees Bottom and falls in love with him.Part2:Unhappy with the mess,1 Oberon orders Puck to change Bottom’s head back, and lifts the spell from Titania. He turns the four confused loverssintostwo happy couples. Everyone feels that the night’s strange events2 were just a dream. At the end, Puck tells the audience3 that if they did not like the play, they should consider it as just that: a dream. In fact, many people have said that when the play ended, they were not sure whether what they saw was real, or whether they had shared the same dream.“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”has stood the test of time. And likewise,4 there are people who still celebrate5 Midsummer. If you find yourself lost in a forest, lost in love, or lost in confusion on this day, perhaps Midsummer fairies will come to set things right for you, too.

Half bull, half man, the Minotaur was the most fearsome monster of ancient times. Its horns were sharp as knives, its great hooves could kick the life out the strongest of heroes, and its food was human flesh. The Minotaur lived in the labyrinth, a great maze of winding passages on the island of Crete. Each year seven youths and seven maidens were sent from Greece as food for the beast. One year, Theseus, the greatest of the Greek heroes, said he would go to Crete and fight the monster. "Let me go as one of the victims," he said to his father Aegeus. "I'll kill the Minotaur and free Greece from this peril." Aegeus was unsure. He remembered how others had promised to slay the beast and had ended up dead. But Theseus insisted. Soon his ship was rigged with black sails, which was the custom when Greeks were sailing to meet their doom. "Watch out when I return," said Theseus. "I will hoist white sails to show that I've succeeded." Theseus' ship arrived at the harbour of Knossos, near the palace of King Minos of Crete. The king's daughter, Ariadne, saw the ship. Soon the Greek hero and the beautiful Cretan girl were talking, and, before they knew it, the pair were in love. When Theseus told Ariadne that he was going to kill the Minotaur, she decided she would help him. She knew that even a hero would get lost in the winding passages of the labyrinth. So she gave him a ball of thread. "Unwind it as you go in, then you will be able to find your way out again by following the thread," she explained. So Theseus entered the dark, winding labyrinth, undoing the thread as he went. Soon he heard the bellowing beast, and as he walked on, the roars got louder and louder, until Theseus was at the centre of the maze and face to face with the monster. Now the hero could see the glint in the beast's eyes. He could hear the rumble of its breathing. He could even feel the warmth of his breath as the creature crouched in its lair. Theseus paused, waiting for the best moment to attack. As the creature turned his back, Theseus sprang, plunging his sword into the beast's flesh. The Minotaur gave out one last bellow, and breathed its last. Theseus found his way out of the maze using Ariadne's thread and sailed quickly back to Greece to tell his father that he had succeeded. But Theseus was so excited that he forgot to hoist his white sails. When Aegeus saw his son's ship rigged with the black sails he feared the worst. The old man, despairing, flung himself from the cliff into the seas, and perished beneath the waves. Theseus had won his victory but lost his father, and was sad at heart for many a long year.

仲夏夜之梦Theseus (the Duke of Athens) announces he will marry Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons in four days. He hears Egeus' complaint that his daughter Hermia refuses to marry his chosen suitor, Demetrius, since she's in love with Lysander, who Egeus dislikes. Theseus declares Hermia must marry Demetrius, or choose between death or joining a nunnery. Lysander instructs Hermia to flee to the forest with him, so that they can travel to his aunt's house to marry. Hermia's friend, Helena, learns of this and decides to inform Demetrius, whom she likes (and has slept with). Demetrius, though, loves Hermia. Helena hopes they will all meet in the forest. Meanwhile, Quince, Bottom, Flute, Starveling, Snug, and Snout organize a play to be performed at Theseus' wedding. In the forest, Oberon (the King of the Fairies) argues with Titania (the Fairy Queen) that he should have her orphan child as his page. Titania objects, asserting she is queen. The bicker that Oberon loves Hippolyta and Titania loves Theseus. To obtain the boy, Oberon orders the fairy Puck (aka Robin Goodfellow) to obtain a flower from Cupid that causes on to love the first person a person sees. Oberon plans to give it to Titania, so she'll love a vile thing and give him the child. Demetrius and Helena appear, Helena pursuing him, and he fleeing her. Puck arrives with the flower, and Oberon orders Puck to anoint Demetrius with it so he'll love Helena rather than Hermia. Oberon then anoints Titania with the flower. In the forest, Lysander and Hermia lie down to rest. Puck, thinking Lysander is Demetrius, anoints him with the flower. Helena appears and awakes Lysander, who immediately falls in love with her. In the forest, the troupe of players discuss the logistics of their play. Puck appears and transforms Bottom to have an ass' (donkey's) head. The actors flee, but Titania awakes and falls in love with Bottom and orders her fairy servants to attend to him. Puck observes that Demetrius chases Hermia, yet she accuses him of murdering Lysander, and realizes he gave the flower to the wrong man. Oberon tries to remedy this by anointing Lysander with the flower so he'll fall in love with Helena, and he does. However, now both men love Helena, while she believes both are false. Hermia arrives and Helena accuses her of conspiring with the men to tease her. Oberon, realizing Puck has caused these problems, orders him to make a thick fog to separate the four people and force them into a deep sleep, so the spell can wear off. Oberon awakes Titania and transforms Bottom back to a human. Oberon and Titania then make up and love each other again. In the woods, Theseus, Hippolyta, and Egeus appear and awake the four. Demetrius and Lysander inform the men of their love for Helena and Hermia (respectively). The lords agree to let them marry. Separately, Bottom awakes and remember's the night's occurrences. At dinner, they all hear Quince's ten word, tedious, brief, tragical play. In it, Thisby (played by Flute) and Pyramus (played by Bottom) whisper their love through a chink in a wall (played by Snout). They vow to meet at Ninny's tomb, but a lion (played by Snug) attacks Thisby. Pyramus arrives and finds her scarf, assumes she's dead, and kills himself Thisby arrives to find him dead, and kills herself. After the play, at midnight, all go to bed, then the fairies appear and frolic.

《秘密花园》--The Secret Garden This book is written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is about Mary Lennox and her two friends, Dickon and Colin. Mary’s parents died when she was ten. She had been sent to her uncle, Mr. Archibald Craven, who has a son named Colin. Mary was once a selfish girl. She started to know the word “friend” after she met Dickon. The boy was so kind that Mary could even find the smell of the sun on him. They went to the Secret Garden every day, planting and playing. Mary never expected that making the garden beautiful would bring so wonderful feeling to her. She was so happy to be with Dickon that she almost forgot the sadness. She came out of her small lonely world. Colin was a sick boy who couldn’t even walk. Before he met Mary, he was taken care of by the servants, but no one really cared about him. He couldn’t find any reason to live. So he cried and thought about death all the time. But Mary came. Colin liked Mary very much. Of course, the most exciting of all was the Secret Garden.
