我认为我喜欢英语

大学毕业开始工作已经两年了，而很多人觉得我还像个学生，原因很简单，因为我这个人老是拿着本英文杂志在那儿津津有味地看，甚至还在浏览英文网页。于是，我就自然地被认为了是那种有着经典怀旧情结的人，似乎在单位里工作两年了还是忘不了学习英语，还是沉浸在所谓的自我的世界里。更有那么几个自以为了解我的人会说，这个家伙是不是自以为英文好啊，所以经常在那里摆酷。我的所作所为自然而然地被认为是与周围格格不入的，甚至是为了装饰自我的。因为在这样的单位里，学英语是没什么必要的。 于是很多人会说，呵，这个怪人！对此我能理解，也不会去辩解，反正这么说我也记不清是第几次了。我现在在这里只是想谈谈自己和英语之间的关系，就像聊聊自己和一个朋友的关系一样，可不是替我自己辩护，伸冤，因为那不是我的风格。我向来不会去费力替自己辩白，哪怕是别人冤枉了我，因为我深知这样反而容易适得其反，这种傻事我不会做的。况且冤枉误解的多了去了，早就习惯了。于是，每当有人用那种见了鬼似的表情问我“天啊，你还在学英语？”的时候，我会眼都不眨一下地说：“是的，我英语不好。”这样一来，事情就简单了。无非是自己背个“书呆子”或者“怪人”的名声，反正又不是没背过。 好了，说了那么多废话，该说说正题了。正式接触英语是从初中开始的，那时候英语是一门课，而且是很重要的课，和语文数学一样，所以每堂英语课我都是聚精会神地听，专心程度似乎超过了语文和数学。到高中也是这样，因此我的英语基础还是不错的，考试成绩也很好。尤其在高中，我成了那个专门被老师请出来回答那些几乎没人能回答的难题的人。这样的感觉很奇妙，无形之中增加了我学习英语的动力和兴趣。不过可以说在大学以前，我一直是在学习英语，我和它的关系，也是单纯的学生和功课之间的关系。 进了大学，也许是专业的关系，也许是考虑到将来考研的需要，我对学英文更加重视。由于课余自由支配时间的增加，我开始看英文报刊杂志，没想到这个习惯一直持续到了现在。在阅读的过程中，我和英语之间的关系也开始发生转变。随着词汇量的增加和语法的巩固，阅读速度变快，我发现自己越来越关注文章本身的内容，从一开始的“我从这篇文章能学到什么”到“我从这里能了解到什么”，英语逐渐变成了一种工具。我一直是个对西方文化很感兴趣的人，而通过英文杂志和网站，我能第一时间接触和了解西方社会的种种现象。同时我发觉，国外的一些著名媒体的评论文章，都是比较客观和实事求是的（比如《经济学家》），虽然偶尔也有个人观点夹杂其中，但是字里行间透露出的那种客观和民主意识，是我所欣赏和敬佩的。他们会用foolish来修饰president Bush，会对政府做出的政策给予坚决的抨击和无情的讽刺，同时也会对中国的经济增长为世界做出的贡献给予充分的肯定。这和我们自己的新闻媒体又形成了多大的反差呢？我们的报纸，我们的评论，又是怎么样的呢？当回过头来再看看国内的一些东西，有时候会觉得很不习惯，甚至让人怀疑，这些报道是真实和客观的吗？答案恐怕不会令人满意。 可以说，英语成了我了解西方社会，甚至是了解全球趋势的媒介。作为一个经济学专业毕业的学生，我也经常关注全球政治经济的发展态势，而英语就成了必不可少的工具。我发现自己早就不是在学习英语了，虽然偶尔遇到生词或者难懂的句子也会停下来学习和分析，但是我的目的已不在于此。我看《经济学家》，就像别人看《参考消息》一样，除了文字差别。只是我对西方文化感兴趣，也更习惯国外评论的客观性和民主性罢了。 最后，也是最为重要的一点，就是作为一个中国人，我认为国语远比英文重要。如果说英语是我最好的朋友，那么中文就是自己的母亲。孰重孰轻，自不必说。
