大学生英语演讲稿：如何改变自己It’s my great pleasure to stand here to present my speech—Change the World, Change Ourselves. It’s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while chinese traditional festivals are being somewhat neglected. Not long before about 10 Doctors in Beijing university and Qinghua unversity announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture. Frankly speaking, I don’t quite agree with them.Indeed, we should never neglect or even discard our traditonal festivals as China boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples).But why can’t we absorb the meaningful western holidays and culture. There are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in China. On the one hand, some of the western holidays which we Chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as Father’s Day and April Fool’s Day etc. On the other hand,the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in China. Overwhelmed by such a trend,Chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture. With the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations becomes faster and more and more important. We are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the earth.The only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? The answer is definitely no. What we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate Chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. Only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. Only by educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our ancesters left for us. Good morning, everybody!In this world, there is one thing that is very fair to everybody, whether you are a male or female, young or old, rich or poor. Does anybody know what it is called?Right. It is time. The topic I am going to present to you today is called “ Treasure Every Minute”.The clock is running. Make the most of today. To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade. To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby. To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet. To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train. To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident. To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics. Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with. And remember that time waits for no one. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Helloeveryone. Today, I’m very excited to stand here, giving a talk to you.If the person who you like is a gay, what will you do? How can you deal with this?Tell the truth to others and try to make his or her sexual orientation“normal”? Or still be his or her friend, help him or her?The book “OUT” tells a story of Natalie and Will. They were best friends at the beginning ofthe story. But one day, Natalie found she didn’t want to just be Will’s friendsany more. She started to pay attention on him and the girls around him made herreally worried, so she decided to tell Will she liked him. But before she saidit, Will said to her inadvertently he was a gay and he loved the boy Paul verymuch. Natalie felt really sad but she didn’t tell anyone else about it. Shefelt hurt, but she just kept this as a secret. After a football match whichPaul joined in, Will decided to tell Paul about how much he loved him and alsowanted to ask him out. Paul was scared and he told all the people in their classabout what he had just heard from a boy! Every boys thought Will was strangeand abnormal, so they stared to laugh at him and stuck attitudes of exclusion.Natalie was the only one who could understand him and try to help him. I thinkthat’s what we should do to deal with this kind of problems!After I read the story, the only thing I want to say is: It’s OK to be different. Thefirst thing I want to talk about is gay. Most of the gay was already a gay whenthey were born, we can’t change it unless we change their DNA. Once somescientists from Beijing did an experiment on this topic. They first put a kindof DNA called 5-HT out of the mice, and then found all of them started to turnblind eyes to the opposite sex and started to be a gay. Then they put 5-HTback, and found those mice became “normal” again! Yes, it is really amazing, butwhat we can get from this are 1. The scientists love mice when they were doingexperiments; 2. Being a gay is usually not those people’s fault coz they wereborn with this and it can’t be easily changed! Like we can become wiser bystudying, and we can also change our looks by plastic surgery, if you want to.But what we can’t change is our DNA, our blood relationship and some stuff likethat. Some of the gay wasn’t born with this kind of DNA, what made them a gaywas the environment around them when they were young. Maybe in some of theirfamilies had many daughters but only one boy. The boy stays and plays with hissisters all the time, and that may make him a guy who does all the things likea girl! The second thing I want to talk about is the height. Do you know who is the tallestwoman in the world? Let me tell you the answer. Sandy Allen, the tallest womanin the world. She is at about 2.31 meters, taller than any players in the NBA. In fact, according to the Guiness Book of World Records, Sandy is the tallest woman in the world."Some people make fun of me because I'm so tall, but I'm proud of myself," Sandysaid. "You've got to be proud of yourselves too, no matter what you are.Be proud of yourselves and make the best of what you've got." Yes, to beproud of ourselves is really important to all of us here, even though we aredifferent from others. The last thing I want to say is about handicapped. When you see a personwho lost their arms or legs, what will you do? I think most of the people inthe world will look at them with pity. I had read an article, it tells us what handicapped peoplescared and hated is the sympathize look from the people around them. They don’tneed some special “help” from us coz they want to tell the world they can liveby themselves! What they really need is just communication! Really!At the end of the talk, I want to tell all of you here: IT’S OK TO BE DIFFERENT.
