near、by、beside、at、around这些个介词都有“在…附近”的含义，但是侧重点不同。如果按从远到近排列这个几个“附近”，顺序为：near>by>beside>at。
1、near翻译为“在附近”，实际距离不一定近。
A new hospital is being built near our school.
我们学校附近正在兴建一家医院。
2、beside和by翻译为“在…附近”，实际距离就比较近了，但是略微有个区别，beside尤其指“在…旁边”、“在…身边”，一种触手可及的近。
The boy was sitting beside his father.
男孩坐在他父亲旁边。
3、at，表达有目的地“靠近”一个精确的地点。
I am sitting at the desk reading books.
我正坐在桌边读书。
4、I planted a tree by the river.
我在河边种了一棵树。
5、around表示“在……周围，围绕”。
There are many trees aroundthe village.
村子周围有很多树围绕。
