    A

Computers can injure (伤害)you. Most other injuries happen suddenly. For example, if you fall off a bike and break your arms, it happens very quickly.But computer injuries happen slowly. You probably know how to ride a bike safely. Now learn to use a computer safely.

    Your eyes

Too much light can injure your eyes, so never sit too close to a computer screen. Your eyes should be at least 50 centimeters(厘米)from the screen. Remember to look away from it sometimes. This gives your eyes a rest.

When you use a computer, the window should be on your left or your right. If it is behind you, the light will reflect on(反射)the screen. If the window is in front of you, the sun and the screen will both shine into your eyes.

    Your hands and wrists

Hand and wrist injuries can happen because the hands and wrists are moved in the same way hundreds of times. If you use a keyboard for a long time, follow these three rules: 1)Rest your wrists on something. 2)Keep your elbows(肘)at the same height as the keyboard. 3)Stop sometimes and exercise your hands, wrists and fingers in a different way.

    Your back

Some people sit for many hours in front of a computer. If you sit in the wrong way, you can injure your back or your neck. So you should sit with your back straight. The top part of the screen should be in front of your eyes. Your forearms, wrists, hands and the upper part of your legs should all be parallel(平行)to the floor. If you are sitting for a long time, get up every 30 minutes and exercise your arms, legs and neck.

Enjoy your computer, but use it safely.

    C. you use a keyboard for a long time

    D. the window is behind you

    B

Reading newspapers has become an important part of everyday life. Some people read newspapers as the first thing to do in the morning, others read newspapers as soon as they have free time during the day so that they can learn what is happening in the world.

Sometimes, we do not have enough time to read all the news carefully, so we just take a quick look at the front page. At other times, we may be in such a hurry that we only have a few minutes to look at the headlines(标题) of the passage.

Newspapers can be found everywhere in the world. We can get many different kinds of newspapers in big cities, but in some mountain villages we can see few newspapers.

Some newspapers are published (出版) once a week, but most of the papers are published once a day with many pages, some even published twice a day! You know different people enjoy reading different newspapers. Some like world news, and others prefer short stories. They just choose what they are interested in.

Tom walked into a shop . It bad a sign outside : Second-hand (旧的) clothes bought and sold . He was carrying an old pair of trousers and asked the owner of the shop, How much will you give me for these? The man looked at them and then said: Two dollars.

What ! said Tom. I had guessed they were worth at least five dollars.

No, said the man, they aren't worth a cent more than two dollars.

Well, said Tom, taking two dollars out of his pocket. Here's your money. These trousers were hanging outside your shop. The list price (标价)of them was six dollars and a half. But I thought that was too much money, so I wanted to find out how much they were really worth.

Then he walked out of the shop with the pair of trousers and disappeared before the shop owner could think of anything to say .

    28. At first the owner of the shop thought that Tom __________ .

    A. wanted to steal the trousers

    B. wanted to sell the trousers

    C. wanted to fool him

    D. wanted to buy the trousers

    29. The owner of the shop _______ for the old trousers .

    A. would give Tom two dollars

    B. would pay three dollars

    C. would pay five dollars

    D. would give Tom six dollars and a half

    30. The shop owner insisted that the trousers were worth only two dollars because ____ .

    A. he wanted to sell them cheaply (廉价地)

    B. he wanted to buy them cheaply

    C. he didn't like the trousers

    D. they were old and dirty

    31. In fact, the trousers _________. A. were hanging inside the shop B. were stolen by Tom from the shop C. had been the shop owner's D. had been Tom's

In England recently three foreign gentlemen came to a bus stop and waited . About five minutes later, the bus they wanted came along. They were just going to get on when suddenly there was a loud noise behind them. People rushed onto the bus and tried to push them out of the way . Someone shouted at them. The bus conductor came rushing down the stairs to see what all the trouble was about. The three foreigners seem all at sea and looked embarrassed (窘迫的 . No one had told them about the British custom (习惯)of lining up for a bus that the first person who arrives at the bus stop is the first person to get on the bus .

Learning the language of a country isn't enough. If you want to have a pleasant visit, find out as much as possible about the manners and customs of your host country. You will probably be surprised just how different they can be from your own. A visitor to India would do well to remember that people there consider it impolite to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is supposed to be used for washing yourself. Also in India, you might see a man shaking his head at another to show that he doesn't agree. But in many parts of India a shake of the head means agreement. Nodding (点头) your head when you are given a drink in Bulgaria will most probably leave you thirsty . In that country, you shake your head to mean 'yes'— a nod means 'no' . At a meal in countries on the Arabic Peninsula, you will find that your glass is repeated refilled as soon as you drink up . If you think that you have had enough , you should take the cup or glasses in your hand and give it a little shake from side to side or place your hand over the top.

In Europe it quite usual to cross your legs when you are sitting talking to someone even at an important meeting. Doing this in Thailand, however, could bring about trouble . Also, you should try to avoid (避免)touching the head of an adult (成人) ——it's just not done in Thailand .

    32. The British people tried to push the three gentlemen out of the way, because the gentlemen _________ .

A group of scientists were planning to go to the countryside to do a scientific research in order to find out whether the environment of the country had been polluted. On their arrival ,they started to check the air and water. To their surprise , they found how terrible the situation was. They could see the serious pollution. Looking into the cause, they persuaded the government to pass the law to protect the environment and keep the balance of nature . Now everything has changed. Birds are singing while trees and grass are waving .

As students born after 1990, we have so many advantages. We are usually kind and helpful. When someone is in trouble, we always give him or her a hand. We are also active. We like to do sports and go traveling. Most of us can work hard in class and play happily after school. Besides, we are imaginative and creative. We always try something new and do everything differently.

On the other hand, we also have some disadvantages. Sometimes we can’t express our opinions in proper ways; sometimes we are a little over confident. And many students have no brothers or sisters, so they may do everything for themselves. These problems may make us seem impolite, even we can’t communicate with others well. So it’s the most important for us to learn how to get on well with others.
