独木舟又称划艇（英语：Canoe），是一种用单根树干挖成的小舟，需要借助桨驱动。独木舟的优点在于由一根树干制成，制作简单，不易有漏水，散架的风险。它可以说是人类最古老的水域交通工具之一（另一种是筏子）。原始的独木舟几乎在全世界都有发现：在英国约克郡一个沼泽里，发掘出了一支公元前7500年的木桨。这支桨一定是用来划一种中间掏空的独木舟的。在荷兰发现了一只这样的独木舟，其年代约为公元前6300年。在英国发现的一只独木舟，长达16米，宽1.5米。中国新石器时代遗址浙江湖州钱山漾、浙江余姚河姆渡、福建连江、广东化州都出土过独木舟或船桨的残骸，这些文物已有5000-9000年的历史。埃及，印度等地都发现过考古证据。至今非洲及美洲印第安人的一些部落还在按照古法制作独木舟。
