英语中表示很多的短语有a lot of. very much. a large number等

意思都是“很多，大量”只能修饰可数名词的：a large/ great/ good number of, a good/ great many, dozens of, scores of, quite a few 只能修饰不可数名词的：a great deal of, a large amount of, quite a little,a large sum of 既可修饰可数也可修饰不可数名词的：plenty of, a lot of, lots of, a large quantity of, a good supply of但是a number of不能修饰不可数名词。

1.a lot of ,lots of,plenty of 等词组表示许多大量,既可以修饰可数名词也可以修饰不可数名词.比如:a lot of books ,plenty of water. 2.a great deal of ,a large amount of,a little ,little,只能修饰不可数名词.谓语动词用单数形式.例如:A large amount of medicine is needed in that area. 3.a great many ,a large number of ,a great number of,表示许多大量,可修饰可数名词复数.谓语动词用复数形式. 4.many a 可表示许多,但做主语时谓语动词只能用单数第三人称. 例如:Many a scientist has been trying to research into the SARS bacteria. 5.masses of 做主语时谓语动词用复数,a mass of 修饰主语时谓语动词用单数.例如:Masses of work are to be done to welcome the new year. 6.a quantity of ,(large )quantities (of ) 作主语,或其所修饰的名词作主语时,其谓语动词应根据quantity 的单复数形式而定.例如:Large quantities of money are needed to equip the school. A quantity of story books has been bought for the children.

She's lost a lot of weight. （这里不能用plenty of）

1、many、a great/good many 、a great/large number of 、scores of、dozens of和 (quite) a few, 这类“许多”修饰作主语的名词时，只能修饰名词复数形式，谓语动词用复数。

There are a great/good many English books in our school library.

2、the number of + n （可数名词复数） 表示"....的数目”,用它做主语时，谓语用单数

The number of the students in our class is 55.

3、既可以修饰可数名词复数， 又可以修饰不可数名词a lot of 、lots of 、plenty of 、supplies of ，a great/quantity of 、great/large quantities of。

He has got a lot/lots of questions to ask.

4、只能修饰不可数名词的“许多” 有：much、a great / good deal of 和a large amount of ，这类“许多”修饰主语名词时候， 谓语用单数。

5、a great deal 做名词词组和副词词组，也表示“大量，许多”，还可以修饰比较级，表示程度。
