American gun culture has a long history. It came into being in the early America. In the 16th century, when the initial(最初的) batch(一批) of European immigrants settled in American continent, they often faced with fierce animals’ attacks, conflictions with American Indians and European Powers’ invasions. Under these circumstances, a gun played an increasing important role in defending peoples’ personnel safeties(人生安全). In the Independences War, militias’ decisive contribution strengthened American people’s senses of owning a gun. Militias’ first gunshot in Lexington(莱克星敦) drawn open for Independence War. Since then, according to many Americans, the United States could gain the independence because of every James holding a gun. In Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, American 16th president, encouraged every citizen to possess a gun. Therefore, American people regarded having a gun as an inalienable(不可剥夺的) right. In the provisions of Bill of Right, the second is that every James has the right to holding a gun. It is the legal basis of population of a gun in the USA. So to speak, a gun like hamburgers, hotdogs and rock music has become an indispensable(不可或缺的)part of American culture.
