统计学变量类型如下：
一、定量变量
1、连续变量：在一定区间内可以任意取值，比如身高体重。
2、离散变量：只能用自然数或者整数单位计算，其数值是间断的，相邻两个数值之间不再有其他数值。
二、定性变量
1、有序分类变量：描述数据的等级或顺序，可以进而比较优劣，变量值可以是数值或字符。
2、无序分类变量：取值之间没有顺序差别，仅做分类，又可分为二分类变量和多分类变量。
发展过程：
统计学的英文statistics最早源于现代拉丁文Statisticum Collegium（国会）、意大利文Statista（国民或政治家）以及德文Statistik，最早是由Gottfried Achenwall于1749年使用，代表对国家的资料进行分析的学问，也就是“研究国家的科学”。十九世纪，统计学在广泛的数据以及资料中探究其意义，并且由John Sinclair引进到英语世界。
