Children should begin their formal schooling at an early age People have different views on what children should do at a very early age. Some think that children should begin their formal education and start to spend most of their time on studies. Others believe that it is still time for young children to play. Both views are based on respective ground. Those who argue for the playing time for childern suggest that children at a very early age are still too young to focus their attention on learning. Their brain may not be ready for serious studies such as comprehension and memorizing learning materials. These people are partially right, for it is true that young childern can hardly concentrate. Their attention on one thing lasts for no longer than 15 minutes or so. But we can arrange classes for shorter periods, can’t we? And we can shift teaching subjects. Through putting them to study, young children are occupied with learnging but not with playing. Those who argue for chilldren’s earyly commencement for formal education believe that being put to studies, children can develop good habit of studying, for the process of learning helps develop children’s mental abilities like the ability to memorize, the ability to understand and the ability to do simple calculation. Children’s habit of studying and love for learning are of great importance to youngsters because these two things set up the sound foundation for their future studies. Having children start formal education at a very early age benefits young childern much more than simply letting them play most of their time. A good habits needs a long time to develop to become a second nature. More importantly, it is better to develop a good habit before a bad one may grow. Similarly, the love for learning should take toots for before the love for playing is established. Should a person make an important decision alone? A person should never make an important decision alone, important decisions should be well thought out. People who know you well, know what is best for you, and close to you can give you good advice, give you a different prespective, or share their own experience. When I had difficulty deciding which classes to take in collage, I talked to my teachers and advisors, they had the knowledge and expertise to help me determine which classes were the best ones to take for my future career. Without their advice, I might have chosen unsuitable courses. In collage, I had convinced myself that I was not good enough to act in the school play. Therefore, I decided not to audition even though drama had always been my passion. The day of the auditon, a friend of mine asked me why I was not auditioning. When I told her I did not feel I was good enough, she was shocked, she was able to provide me with another perspectiove on myself and my talents. I rethought my decision and tried out….and got a lead in the play. Last year when I was trying to decide whether or not I should study overseas, I talked to my friend. This was the best thing I could have done. This was a big decisition for me because I had never been overseas on my own and I was not sure if I could do it. She had studied overseas the precious year. She told me about the challenges and opportunities I might encourter and helped me make the right decision. I went and it was amazing. Whenever I am faced with an important decision, I seek advice from others so that I am well-informed and have the benefit of their perspectiove and experience. My opnion on advertisement Advertisements appear everywhere in modern society. There are many way to advertise and ads come in different forms. Newspapers and billboards carry advertisements; some products are announced on TV and radio which have a wide audience. Advertising is a big industry and many agencies are set up for furnish a variety of services for it. However, advertising is not welcome sometimes. A most irritating thing is to watch advertisements before and during films on TV. There are so many of them that they make you forget what you are sitting there for. The ironical thing is that advertisements of one type of things are often shown one after another so that you are confused as to which product you should choose. What’s more, advertising is not always truthful. The advertisers exaggerate the benefits of the merchandise they want to sell in order to gain more profits. Thus the consumer falls victim to such advertising. Although there are disadvantages of ads, we can not forget the advantages and the conveniences they bring to us. First, by telling us where something is available, they may save us money and time. They guide us in finding suitable jobs and other information as well. Secondly, a wide range of activities and institutions receive finanical support through advertising. Without this support we would have to pay much more for newspaters and sports games. Thirdly, perfect advertisements even provide entertainment. A considerable amount of effort goes into their production. So in most cases the photography is truly artistic, the slogans are genuinely witty, and the situations are decidely funny. Generally speaking, advertisements have become one of the most authoritative voices speaking to us today. Let us make our life easier by learning to choose proper ads, and be the master of advertisements, not their salve. 6 The most important characteristic Although honesty, intelligence, and a sense of humor are all worthwhile characteristics, I feel the most important one in life to have is sensitivity. A sensitive person is aware if him/herself and the way their actions affect others. A sensitive person knows the place of honesty, intelligence, and a sense of humor. Honesty is not always the best policy. There is such a thing as a white lie. You do not want to insult someone by saying that their new dress does not fit properly or that you would not live in their new house even if they paid you. You must be sensitive to when it is necessary to tell the truth and when it is better to tell a white lie. Intelligence is a wonderful thing to have, but not all intelligent people use their intelligence sensitively. You don’t want to the reaction of the people around you. It might be appropriate for you to admit that you have the right answer, but in some cases, you might have to say, “I think this is the answer, but we might want to check it.” A sensitive person would not make someone else look dumb. A sense of humor is always values. Different people, however laugh at different things. You don’t want to make someone feel uncomfortable by laughing at his/her mistakes. A sensitive person would understand whether a person could be teased or whether a person would appreciate a certain joke. A sensitive person would make everyone feel comfortable. A sensitive person understands that people are different and that the values of honesty, intelligence and humor can be applied differently. 7 Advantages and disadvantages of spending a great amount of time practising sports Most kids love to play sports. It’s important to them, but for the majority, it’s just one type of activity out of many that they do. For a small number of kids, though, a sport becomes their whole life. They spend almost all their time and energy practising. This has both advantages and disadvantages. Sports are good for young children in many ways. Kids who enjoy sports are likely to have better health. They develop good habits of daily exercise that will keep them healthy as adults, too. Today, many childern and adults are overweight, but those who love sports stay in shape. Plus, by developing their physical abilities, they will learn how to work hard toward a goal. Their achievements in sports will make them feel good about themselves. They will also make friends and learn teamwork. Sports ,whether a little or a lot, can have positive effects. We admire the talent and dedication of young atheletes, but we also wonder if they’re losing something. Their focus is very narrow. If they devote most of their time to sports ,are they negeleting schoolwork? What about other interests? Children should try out many different activities. In addition, many young atheletes are pressured by parents or coaches to succeed. Kids whose drive comes form inside usually do okay, but others can be unhappy and have health and emotional problems. So sports, like anything else in excess, can have negative effect too. When I was young, I liked books and hated sports. I saw other people who loved sports and hated school. Now that I am older, I have found a better balance. People have to figure out what’s right for them. Is there such a thing as too much sports? There is no right answer, because there is no “right amount”. Everyone is different. If you could invent something new, what product would you develop? Write a compositon of about 400words on this topic: 8 A device or pill that help people sleep better If I could invent something new, I would invent a device or pill that could put people to sleep immediately and would have no side effects. The proper amount of sleep is important for our concentraction, mental health, and physical health. Getting enough sleep is a vital human need. For one thing, without sleep our concentration is strongly affected. We are easily distracted, we can not remember things, and we do not notice what’s happening around us. For example, a lot of car accidents are caused by tired drivers. When we get enough sleep, our powers of concentration are sharper. We are more focused on what we are doing. We perform better. Mental health is also affected by lack of sleep. It is easy to tell if people don’t get enough sleep. They’re on edge, cranky, and out of sorts. They lose their tempers easily and over-react to situations. In fact, experiments have shown that lack of sleep over a long period of time can cause a complete mental breakdown. When we get our proper rest, we are more alert and responsive. Our outlook is positive, and we are much easier to get along with. Our physical health shows the strain of sleeplessness, too. We have less energy, and everything seems like a major effort. Over a long period of time, we become slow and unresponsive. The wear and tear on the body from lack of sleep can be a very serious health problems. Every doctor will tell you that getting enough sleep is a basic factor in maintaining good health. Wouldn’t it be great to go to bed every night knowing you’d have no problem getting to sleep, no matter what’s going on in your life? Getting enough sleep is always going to be an important part of how you respond to your situation. I think this device would be very helpful to all of us. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should be paid according to how much their students learn. Write a composition of about 400 words on the following topic: 9 Should teachers be paid on how much their students learn? Education plays a great role in the advancement and success of every society. While there are many factors which affect how well a student learns, the teacher is no doubt one of the most important. Some people believe that teachers would be able to teacher their students more if they were better motivited. For this reason, they suggest that teachers be paid according to how much their students learn. In my opinion, this is not a good idea for the following reasons. First, although a teacher can have a great influence on students, he is not the sole determiner of the students’ success. Other factors, such as the school curriculum and the home environment of the students, must be considered. Therefore, not only is the plan to pay teachers according to the success of their students unfair to the teachers, but it is lead the education authorities to disregard other important factors. Second, while basing their pay on how much their students learn might motivate teachers to tech better, it will certainly lead them to put too much pressure on the students. Furthermore, depending on how the students are evaluated, such a system might cause teachers to put too much emphasis on test scores and ignore other measurements of learning. For these reasons, I think that paying teachers accoring to how much their students learn is not a good idea. It is unfair to both the teachers and the students and may be detrimental to the learning process. This, in turn, would be disadvantageous to the society as a whole. Do you agree or disagree with the folling statement? A person’s childhood years (the time from birth to twelve years of age are the most important years of a persons life. Write a compositon of about it. 10 Childhood: the most important years of a persons life I agree that a person’s childhood years, from birth to twelve years of age, are the most important. All the information I have read about that time of life states that these are the years that form us. These years determine what kind of a person the child will become. During these years we learn about relationships, begin our formed education and develop our moral sense of right and wrong. The early years are the time when we learn about relationships. First we learn about our parents and sibings, then about rest of the world. We learn how to respond to others base on the treatment we’re given. If we are loved, then we know how to love others. If we’re treated harshly, we may grow up to treat others harshly. We also form our ideas about our own self-worth from the way others treat us during these years. They can convince us we are worthless, or they can teach us we deserve love and respect. They are the years when be begin our formal education. We acquire the basic skills--- reading, writing, working with numbers. That we’ll use throughout our lives. We need a good foundation in these subjects. Otherwise, anything we try to do later will be undermined by our lack of skills. Perhaps the most important thing we can learn during these years is how to analyze information and use it. These are skills that will always be useful. Most important, form my point of view, these are the years when we develop our moral sense of what’s right and wrong. Others teach us about good and bad, but later in our early years we begin to decide for ourselves. It is also during this time that we begin to develop the self-discipline to live according to our morals. I believe a person grows and changes for the better throughout the many stages of life. However, the foundation is laid in those first few years of life.
