一、dislike

英 [dɪs'laɪk]  美 [dɪs'laɪk]

v. 不喜欢；厌恶

n. 不喜爱；厌恶；反感

二、disorder

英 [dɪs'ɔːdə(r)]  美 [dɪs'ɔːrdər]

n. 混乱；杂乱；不适；失调；疾病

vt. 扰乱

The meeting terminated in disorder.

会议在混乱中结束。

三、dishonest

英 [dɪs'ɒnɪst]  美 [dɪs'ɑːnɪst]

adj. 不诚实的

I will not make friends with a dishonest person.

我决不会与不诚实的人交朋友。

四、disappear

英 [ˌdɪsə'pɪə(r)]  美 [ˌdɪsə'pɪr]

vi. 消失；不见；失踪

The sun disappeared behind a cloud.

五、disarm

v. 放下武器；裁军；解除武装；缓和

although和though都有虽然的意思，两者的意思很接近，区别也不是很大，一般情况下可以通用。两者的区别是though可以用在句末，但是although不可以，即：Though,but not although can be used at the end of a sentence. 看个例子： She knew all her friends would be there.She didn't want to go,though. 而且though除了虽然，还有别的意思，比如可以表示转折，意思是“但是”。 even though是“即使”的意思，等同与“even if”despite，in spite of Despite用作介词时，与 in spite of同义，都表示“尽管”、“虽然”、“不顾”之意，但程度有所不同。 一般说来，in spite of的语气较强，使用范围也较广； despite的语气较弱，多用于诗歌或正式的文体中。Despite可以写作despite of，也可以写作 in despite of；in spite of则可以写作 spite of，但这些写法已少用了。例： Despite his advanced years，he is learning to drive． 虽然年事已高，他现在在学驾驶汽车。 Despite the drought，we expect a good crop． 尽管天旱，丰收依然在望。 In spite of the police brandishing their clubs and pistols，people showed not the slightest fear． 尽管警方挥动着短棍及手枪，但人们毫不畏惧。 We arrived at the station in spite of the storm． 虽然有暴风雨，我们依旧准点到达火车站。 应当在此指出的是，在现代英语里，despite和in spite of的差距已日渐缩小，很多人已将它们互换使用。 Despite除作介词外，尚可用作名词，表示“蔑视”、“憎恨”、“无意对待”之意。例： The old woman died of despite． 那位老大娘饮恨而死。 He tripped me out of despite，not by accident． 他绊倒我是出于恶意，不是出于意外。 在上列两句中，despite用作名词，它亦可改写为spite.

despite 和 in spite of 都有尽管，虽然的意思，意思接近，但又区别，区别如下：

两个是同一个意思。 Despite 是 in spite of 的简约用法。请参考：

1.论语气，despite 比in spite of 谨严，但意思没有分别，都可译做“虽然”或“不顾”，例如：“In spite of/Despite mounting public discontent , the government is determined to push the bill th rough. （虽然公众不满愈来愈强烈，政府还是执意要通过议案。）”

2.有时，我们会看到despite of mounting public discontent 之类说法，但despite 之后加of ，一般被视为鄙俗甚至不正确，不宜仿效。

3.In spite of 或despite 之后必须用名词或动名词（gerund ），不能接普通子句（clause ），例如不可说“Despite the public is getting increasingly dis contented ”只”。能不过说，“Despite the fact that the public is getting inc reasingly discontented

4.in spite of/despite the fact that 这句式虽然正确，却嫌累赘，最好用although 一字取代，例如：“Although the public is getting increasingly di scontented, the government is determined to push the bill through. ”

5.英文有in spite of/despite oneself 这说法，意思是“不由自主”或“不禁”，例如：“Her words were so satirical that I lost my tempe r in spite of myself. （她的话尖酸刻薄得令我忍不住发脾气。）”

6.留意spite 这个字单独使用时，往往解作“恶意”，和in spite of 不同，例如：“She did it out of spite. （她那样做是出于恶意的。）”
