菲律宾的英文全称：Republic of the Philippines
菲律宾共和国（他加禄语：Republika ng Pilipinas），简称菲律宾，位于西太平洋，是东南亚一个多民族群岛国家，面积29.97万平方公里，人口1.03亿（2016年）。
菲律宾人的祖先是亚洲大陆的移民，14世纪前后建立了海上强国苏禄王国。1565年，西班牙侵占并统治菲300多年。1898年被美国占领。1942年被日本占领。二战后重新沦为美国殖民地。1946年，菲律宾独立。

根据1898年《巴黎条约》、1900年《华盛顿条约》、1930年《英美条约》，菲领土范围西部界限为东经118度线。但上世纪70年代后菲通过4次军事行动突破了该界限，非法侵占了中国南沙群岛8个岛礁，这是中菲领土争端的真实起源。
