in this area 介宾结构放在主语the transportation后面是定语，如果放在broke down后是状语从句，对中文意思没有任何影响。都是“交通中断了”，但作定语似乎更符合中文（中文中“这个地区”是定语）中断了是动词，不及物动词，因为后面没有跟宾语，严格说是不及物动词词组（动词break+副down构成的）
