有很多词可以表示“套管”形状的东西，机械英语里表示轴套常用 bush, sleeve 等。Bush一般是指相对扁平的套管、sleeve指较细长些的套管（长径比）。小型的滑动轴承一般直接用轴套（bush, sleeve），较大的滑动轴承一般采用分成多瓣的轴套，国内一般称为轴瓦、瓦块（pad），其中一类特殊的轴承——米歇尔止推轴承和金氏轴承（Michell, Kingsbury），其瓦块被称为 shoe。其来源可以从Websters词典对shoe的一个释义中看出来：A plate, or notched piece, interposed between a moving part and the stationary part on which it bears, to take the wear and afford means of adjustment; -- called also slipper, and gib. （简单的说就好比：你要搬一个很重的机器，在它下面垫上了减少摩擦的滑块。由于是垫在地上的，所以被称为“鞋子”。这句不是翻译，是我的解释，呵呵。）
