Don't Open the Wrong Window A girl was leaning over the windowsill of her own bedroom when she saw her neighbor burying a puppy, which was so lovely that the little girl usually played with it.Seeing the puppy dead, the little girl couldn't help bursting into tears from her broken heart. When her grandfather witnessed this, he led the little girl to another room and opened another window. Looking out of this window, she found it was a sunshiny rose garden with the birds singing and the air permeated with the fragrance of flowers. Instantly the little girl became cheerful without any anxiety on her face. The old man told his granddaughter kindly,"My dear, you just opened a wrong window." Many ages had now passed away since the Phoenix had been seen in the world. At last he again appeared. Immediately al the different kinds of animals, both birds and beasts, flocked around him.
Astonished at his beauty, they stared and admired, and broke out into great praise. But in a short time, the wisest and most prudent(谨慎的) amongst them began to look upon him with an eye of compassion, and they sighed,"O unhappy phoenix! Fate has been hard to him. He has neither mate nor friend. He will never know the pleasure of loving, or of being loved."
Many many years ago, in the State of Song, there was a city gate. Outside the gate was a moat with fishes that lived a quiet and happy life there.
One day the tower above the city gate caught fire and the people of the city were alarmed. Even the fishes in the moat could hear the gone.
"What's the noise about?" the fishes wondered. "I must go and find out," said one curious black carp. When he saw the tower on fire, he hurried back to tell his mates. "Swim all you could! Swim all you could! Swim for life!" He cried to his fellow-fishes. "The city gate is burning!"
So all the fishes except the carps started to swim away. One arrogant carp even laughed at the other fishes. "Don't laugh," said the kind black carp. "You really ought to swim away, too, in good time."
"Why should I?" asked the arrogant carp. "It's only their city gate on fire, what's it got to do with me in the water?" The fire spread very fast and the firemen had used up all the water in the city. But it was still burning. So they fetched waster from the moat.
At long last, the fire was put out, but the moat had also gone dry, leaving a few sorry carps in their dying struggle. This tale likens the city gate fire to disasters that do not seem to concern us but that can spread and involve even the innocent.

Meng jiu is a kind of bird that lives in the south. It always makes its delicate nest with beautiful feathers, and fastens the nest to the spikes of reeds(芦苇).
Whenever there is a big wind, the nest always falls to the ground when the reeds break. All the eggs and young birds are killed. Disaster happens not because the nest Meng Jiu makes is not fast enough, but the reed that the nest is fastened to is too weak.
