Lushun Factfile Loacation: Lushunkou District is situated in the southern tip of Liaodong Peninsula, with the Huanghai Sea to its east, the Bohai Sea to its west and facing Shandong Peninsula across the ocean in the south, neighboring Dalian in the north. It is under jurisdiction of Dalian Municipality. Lushunkou District is honored as the National Scenic spot, National Natural Protection and National Forest Park. There is a world-famous natural non-frozen Lushun Harbor, which is the gateway to Beijing and Tianjin on the sea and the natural protective screen for Northeast of China. The newly-built Lushun New Port is the “Golden Waterway” linking Liaodong Peninsula to Shandong Peninsula.Area: It is 26.1kilometers from north to south and 31.2 kilometers from east to west. The total area is 506.8 square kilometers, with the coastal line of 169.7 kilometers. The cultivated area is 6496 hectare, with the average cultivated area of 0.031 hectare/person in 2001.Topography: Within the district territory are the hills region of remaining hills of Changbaishan Mountain with the high in the east and low in the west. It is at an elevation of 140 meters. There are 292 hills in the region, among which Liaotieshan hill is the highest with an elevation of 465.6 meter. It is neighboring the demarcation between Huanghai Sea and Bohai Sea and named as the “Ends of the Earth” of Liaoning Province. The most rivers within district are intermission rivers. The farming cultivated land are most located in the steep slope of 15ºor so and few of them are located at the hills, basins or river valley.Climate: It enjoys monsoon, continental and maritime climate. It has the clear distinction between the four seasons with the long winter and summer and short spring and autumn. It also has the sufficient sunlight and the moderate rainfall. In 2001, the average temperature is 11.1℃with the highest of 33.7℃with the lowest of –18℃.The annual precipitation is 484.8ml. The total hour of sunlight is 2554.5 hours and its rate of sunlight is 58%.Administration Division: There are 7 towns, 6 street administration offices, one economic development zone. There are 71 villages committees and 24 community committees. The People’s Government of Lushunkou District is located at No.24, Huanghe Road within the district.Population: In accordance with the indication of the “5th”population census, the permanent population of total district is 264,998(Dalian Dairy Field included) with the 2.86 people of each family. At the end of 2001, the total population of household register is 207,812, among which urban population is 123,444 and rural population is 843.68, occupying the 59.4% and 40% of the total population separately. The sex rate of population is 98.98: 100(Female population is 100). The natural increase rate of population is –0.14‰, and the rate of birth control is 100%
