地道的说法应该是class leader或者class presidency.monitor这一说法在国内广为流行，甚至教材上也一直有班长这一释意。在请教过牛津以及柯林斯等权威字典后，该词的原始意思为监察员，监督员，并没有直接译为班长。而monitor译为班长要归咎于文革时期的体制问题，在今天如此翻译实属不恰当，违背本意。
