A Tortoise walks by and meets a Rabbit. Tortoise: Hi there, Mr. Rabbit. Beautiful day, isn’t it? Rabbit: Aren’t you “the Slow Tortoise”? The Tortoise is a little mad, but he doesn’t show it. The Tortoise still tries to be nice to the Rabbit. Tortoise: Yes, I’m Mr. Tortoise. I’m happy to meet you. Let’s be friends. Rabbit: No, thank you. I don’t want to be your friend. Tortoise: How come? Rabbit: Your legs are too short. You can’t jump. And you are too slow. Tortoise: My legs may be short. And I may be slow. But I can still beat you in a race. Rabbit: Ha!Ha!Ha! That’s funny! How can you beat me? I am much faster. Tortoise: I can beat you for sure. Rabbit: No, you can’t! Tortoise: Yes, I can! Rabbit: No, you can’t! Tortoise: Yes, I can! Let’s have a race now. Then you’ll see. Rabbit: Now? Okay! Why not? I will win for sure. Tortoise: Let’s make a bet. If I win, you must carry me on your back. Rabbit: I promise. But if I win, you must carry me. Tortoise: Fine. The other animals in the forest hear about the race and gather to see the Tortoise and the Rabbit run. The race is about to start. Tortoise: See the mountain top? Rabbit: Yes. Tortoise: The first one to reach there, wins. Okay? Rabbit: Okay. The Fox is the starter. Fox: Stand behind this line. Are you both ready? Tortoise: Yes Rabbit: Me too. Fox: Okay. I’ll start the race. One! Two! Three! Go! The Fox drops the white handkerchief and the race starts. The Rabbit is very fast and is already way ahead. The tortoise walks very slowly. The other animals are all cheering for the Tortoise. The Fox is worried about the Tortoise. Fox: Poor Mr. Tortoise. He will lose for sure. Goat: How do you know? Maybe he will win. The Rabbit is already half way up the mountain. He is out of breath. He stops to look behind. Rabbit: Where is the Tortoise? I can’t even see him. He is too slow for me. This is too easy. The Rabbit decides to take a nap before the Tortoise comes. Rabbit: I am a little tired. And I have a lot of time. So, I will take a nap here. The Rabbit takes a nap. Even though the Tortoise is still far behind, he doesn’t stop or give up. He just walks and walks and walks. Tortoise: I am tired, but I must go on. I must win the race. One, two. One, two. The Rabbit falls asleep and continues to sleep for hours. The Tortoise is now at the middle of the mountain. He sees the Rabbit sleeping. Tortoise: It’s Mr. Rabbit! Why is he sleeping here? He must be very tired. I am tired, too. But I must go on. One, two. One, two. The mountain top is not too far away. The Tortoise is almost at the finish line. All the other animals are surprised. Goat: Look! It’s the Tortoise! Fox: Where’s the Rabbit? Goat: Who knows? Come on, Mr. Tortoise! Go! Go! Go! The tortoise takes one step, and another step, and another. Tortoise: One, two. One, two. I’m almost there. Just then, the Rabbit wakes up from his nap and is surprised. He realizes that he has slept too long. He sees the Tortoise near the mountain top. He runs, and runs, and runs, but it’s no use. Rabbit: Faster! Faster! I must run faster! Finally, the Tortoise reaches the mountain top first and wins the race. Goat: Hooray! Hooray for Mr. Tortoise! Fox: Congratulations, Mr. Tortoise! You won the race! Tortoise: Thank you, thank you, everyone! The Rabbit is too late. He feels ashamed. Rabbit: Oh, no! I lost. Now I have to carry the Tortoise on my back. The Rabbit goes to shake hands with the Tortoise. Rabbit: Good race. Congratulations, Mr. Tortoise. You won the race. Tortoise: I told you, I would win. Rabbit: But how did you do it? Tortoise: It wasn’t too hard. Just take one step after another. It may be slow, but you will get there for sure. Rabbit: Oh…Now, I will keep my promise. Climb up on my back. Tortoise: That’s okay. Let’s just be friends. 新英语小故事龟兔赛跑篇三 bird: friends, friends, come here and have a look. (伙伴们,伙伴们,快来看啊!) the hare and the tortoise will have a match again. This is a story from Three Kingdoms that happened before the Battle of Chibi. One night, Zhou Yu was thinking hard in his tent about how to defeat Cao Cao's army, when Huang Gai came in . He suggested attacking with fire. “Well, it's exactly what I mean to do.” Said Zhou Yu. “That's why I'm keeping those two spies: to convey false information to Cao's camp. But I need a man to play the same game for us.” Huang Gai said he was willing to do it. They decided to carry out the trick of being flogged to win the enemy's confidence.
The next day Zhou Yu convened a general assembly of his commanders outside his tent. He ordered the commanders to take three months's rations and prepare to defend their line. Huang Gai came forward and said: “We don't need three months. If not, we'd better throw down our weapons and sue for peace.”
Zhou Yu exploded in fury. “Ibear our lord's mandate,” he cried, “to lead our troops to destroy Cao Cao. How dare you weaken our morale? Remove him and execute him!”Huang Gai proudly, “I have served the Southland through three successive reigns. Where do the likes of you come from?”The entire assembly got on their knees to intercede for Huang Gai. Zhou Yu said at last: “In consideration for the commanders' views, I shall not kill you. Give him one xiaogushi8.com hundred strokes across the back!” Huang Gai was forced facedown to the ground. Not yet at fifty blows of the rod, his skin was broken and his oozing flesh was crossed with welts. He fainted several times.
Zhou Yu let Kan Ze, Huang Gai's friend, to deliver the letter of surrender to Cao Cao, which Huang Gai had prepared. Before long, Cao Cao received a letter from the two spies, saying “Look for a boat with a blue-GREen flag at the bow. That will be Huang Gai.” In Huang Gai's boat there were combustibles. In this way, Huang Gai was able to set fire to Cao Cao's camp. When the red current of fire passed through the surface of the river, Cao Cao's ships, linked with chains, turned into ashes.

The Caucus-race
Hello. So far, Alice had been very small, then very tall, then very small again in this strange Wonderland she found when she chased a talking rabbit and fell down the rabbit hole. Now she was swimming in a pool of her own tears, wondering what was going to happen next.
Alice
Ooh, whatever's this? It's a mouse!Hello mouse! You're a very big mouse… but then, I'm a very, very little girl today. Whatever next? If this mouse talks, I won't be at all surprised…Oh Mouse, do you know the way out of this pool? I'm very tired of swimming about here, Mouse! Mouse? Hmmm. Perhaps it doesn't understand English. Maybe it's a French mouse! Now, what was that French I learned in school? Où est machatte?
Chatte? Cat! Did you say cat?!
Chatte(猫)?
Alice
Oh, I'm so sorry Mouse! I forgot mice don't like cats.
Would you like cats if you were me?
Alice
Well… perhaps not. But my cat Dinahis different. She's such a sweet, quiet thing. If you meet her, I'm sure you'll like her.
We won't talk about cats any more, thank you!
Alice
We won't! Er… do you - do you er…like dogs? They can be so sweet and they kill all the rats… and… Oh dear!
Alice
Oh please come back, dearMouse. We won't talk about cats or dogs, if you don't like them.Swim with me to the shore.
So Alice and the mouse swam to the edge of the pool of tears. And as they swam, they were joined by lots of other creatures that had fallen into the pool, just like Alice and the mouse. There was a duck and a dodo and many other strange animals that Alice had never seen before. All the creatures had the same question.
How can we get dry? What can we do?I'm so far away from my nest, that pool was very wet and salty, oh it's no good for my fur, etc…
We must have a Caucus-race!
Hooray! Hoorah!
Alice
What's a Caucus-race,Mr Dodo?
The best way to explain a Caucus-raceis to have a Caucus-race!
It was the strangest race Alice had ever seen. The Dodo marked a circle for the race course and everyone stood anywhere they wanted to. Nobody said "One, two, three, go!" but everyone started running. Alice ran too, although she didn't quite know where she should run to. Everyone ran left and right in any direction they pleased. But after half an hour of running, everybody was quite dry again.
The race is over!
But who has won? Did I win? Who is the winner?
Ah... yes... Who has won? Who has won? Everybody has won and everyone must have prizes! And she must give the prizes!
Alice
Me?
我?
Alice didn't have any prizes for a Caucus-race with her, but she searched in her pockets and found some sweets. She had enough sweets to give exactly one sweet to every runner.
Alice
Here you are, one for you, and one for you…
Thank you very much… oh dear, this has no taste whatsoever… oh, I shall choke…it's rather good, yes very tasty…
Alice
And one for you – now, does everybody have one? Oh, I must say, my cat Dinah would love a Caucus-race…
Let's go! Come away! Time for bed!Oh, is it that time already? Cats - ugh!
Alice
Oh dear. I said it again. Come back! Please! I'm sorry! Poor Dinah. Nobody seems to like her down here and I'm sure she's the best cat in the world!
Poor Alice felt very lonely and sad.She cried quietly to herself for a while. But in a little while, she heard footsteps in the distance. She looked up to see who it was. Next time, I'll tell you who the footsteps belonged to, and how Alice got so big she filled a whole house, and what happened when she kicked poor Bill the lizard up and out of the chimney. Goodbye.
