Disharmonies of Chinese FamiliesIn the 21st century, with the development of new times, many problems exist in Chinese families, such as the phenomena that people value the male child only, family member fight for heritages and the intense relations between mothers and daughts-in-law. Here i can give some detailed points on those issues as below.First, valuing the male child only. Although times change, many Chinese people, especially the elders usually preferred sons to daughters, thinking that males can pass on their blood and family names. This traditional atmosphere is more common in rural areas than big cities, as most farmers need young and robust males to help doing farm works, while daughters are relatively weaker than sons in this aspect.Second, children of a dying elder may fight for his or her heritage. Heritage includes various things, like the savings, expensive antiques, which are the main objects that most offsprings fight for both in the open air or in private. In my opinion, their behaviors are mean and inhumane because what they are caring for is benefits instead of the healthy of loving their parents.Last, mothers and daughters-in-law often cannot maintain good relations. Due to the different living background and view of life, the two persons of the different generations ususally have different ideas on the same thing, therefore, serious quarrels and hatred become evitable between them. Moreover, sometimes the mother may be feel unhappy, seeing that her son always obeyed everything his wife demanded while neglected the feeling of his mother. As a result, jealousy rose and the old lady may find faults with her daught-in-law.To sum up, there exist three crucial issues in Chinese families, and they affected the harmonious atmosphere of families to a great extent.
