金山词霸中对cosmos的解释是“Theuniverseregardedasanorderly,harmoniouswhole”，也就是cosmos是“和谐的universe”。而在实际应用中，cosmos似乎除了用在公司等专用名词或者非常学术性的文章以外，一般都用得比较少。总之平时要表达“宇宙”的意思，用universe一般都不会错的。

universe或者cosmos，在科学上cosmos用的比较多，像宇宙学就是cosmoligy。space只是空间的意思，而宇宙这个词既包括空间又包括时间。outer space指的是地球稠密大气之外的空间，是一个航天上的概念。
