无论是轻轨还是地铁，都可以建在地下、地面或高架桥上，二者的主要区别是单向最大高峰每小时客流量的区别。地铁的铁路能适应的单向最大高峰客流量每小时为 3 万-6 万人次，轻轨铁路能适应单向最大高峰客流量为每小时 1-3 万人次。轻轨与地铁的钢轨无轻重之分。大载客量的地铁车厢，一般的额定载客量为每辆 310 人，超员为 410 人，编组采用每列 6 辆；中等载客量的轻轨铁路车厢，一般的额定载客量为 202 人，超员 224 人，编组采用每列 2-4 辆，轻轨铁路可以根据地形的变化而灵活变更运行轨道，有的建在地面，有的驶入地下，有的建成高架，具有投资省、见效快、适用范围广等优点。

1楼3楼的不知道别胡说啊！关于几个概念-地铁、城铁、轻轨 因为看到很多人，尤其是北京人（不带个好头）对北京地铁的名字乱叫，对地铁、城铁、轻轨的概念不清。所以才想起来写这样一篇日志的。 首先要说明一点，北京地铁公司已经统一把所有修建的线路统一命名为“北京地铁”即Beijing Subway。这样的命名是有依据的，是正确的。而很多无知的人对其的名字一直保持一个错误的叫法，而且多经纠正不知悔改，这里包括很多交通协管。他们不知道误导了多少外地人，如同在西直门站找了半天“城铁13号线的人”最后自己转出了站还多花了钱之类的事情比比皆是。 下面我给出这三个正确的概念： 1.地铁 又名地下铁道，英文Subway。大城市中主要在地下修建隧道，铺设轨道，以电动列车运送乘客的公共交通体系，简称地铁。地铁主要是由线路、列车、车站等组成的交通体系。此外还有供电、通信、信号、通风、照明、排水等系统。地铁线路由路基与轨道构成。轨道与铁路轨道基本相同。它一般采用较重型的钢轨，多为混凝土道床或碎石道床。轨距一般为1435毫米标准轨距。线路按所处位置分为地下、地面和高架线路3种。地下线路为基本类型；地面线路一般建在居民较少的城郊；高架线路铺设在钢或钢筋混凝土高架桥上，避免与地面交通平交，并减少用地。地铁列车均采用由电力动车组成的动车组。地铁车站是列车到发和乘客集散的场所，一般建在客流量较大的集散地。 这也就是说明北京在建和已经建成的1，2，4，5，6，8，9，10，13，八通都属于地铁。 2.城铁 又名城市铁路，或者城际铁路。是连接城市之间的铁路，其运营能力远大于轻轨和地铁。其轨道与地铁相同，一般采用较重型的钢轨，多为混凝土道床或碎石道床。轨距一般为1435毫米标准轨距。如天津到北京的城际铁路。 3.轻轨 轨道交通中采用中等载客量车厢，能适应远期单向最大高峰小时客流量1.5——3.0万人次的成为轻轨铁路。若采用大载客两车厢，能适应远期单向高峰小时客流量为3.0——6.0万人次的统称为地铁。 当然，地铁有建于地下、地面、高架的（如建于地面上的高架地铁也可称之为轨道交通）；而轻轨铁路同样有建于地下的、地面的、高架的。两者区分主要视其单向最大高峰小时客流量。 中等载客两的轻轨铁路车厢，一般额定载客量是202人/辆（超员为224人/辆），编组采用每列2——4辆，如莘庄——闵行轻轨铁路即是。而大载客量的地铁车厢，一般的额定载客量为310人/辆（超员为410人/辆），编组采用每列6辆，如上海地铁1号线、2号线、3号线、4号线、8号线、9号线即是。 目前，上海最大的公共交通设施——轨道交通明珠线的客流量为：建成期日客流量为72.9万人次，即高峰阶段每小时单向客流为2.04万人次；远期（至2020年）的日客流量为91.4万人次，即高峰阶段每小时单向客流量为5.15万人次。列车编组为6辆，列车运行间隔时间初期为5.5分钟，远期为2.1分钟。因此，轨道交通明珠线严格地说，不应称之为轻轨铁路，而应属于地铁制式轨道交通。 但愿不要再发生错误的称谓，一来被人耻笑，二来误导外地人。
