巨嘴鸟属（学名：Ramphastos），又名鵎鵼，为中型攀禽，共有11种，外形略似犀鸟，喙极大，但重量较轻，边缘有锯齿，多具鲜艳彩色花饰。羽色鲜艳，以黑色为主。
成小群活动，杂食性，但主食浆果。在树洞内产2-4枚白色卵，两性孵化，小型种类孵化期为16天，雏鸟晚成性，留巢40-50天。分布于南美洲热带地雨林区，以亚马逊河下游最为丰富。
大部分巨嘴鸟的鸣声嘶哑低沉，但黑嘴巨嘴鸟的鸣啭（“迪欧嘶，啼－哒，啼－哒”）在远处听起来相当悦耳动听，红嘴巨嘴鸟的鸣声（“迪欧嘶－啼－哒－哒”）也是如此。它们会反复鸣叫这样的音符。

巨嘴鸟的繁殖方式
巨嘴鸟种类将巢营于树干上因腐朽而成的洞中，并且若营巢繁殖成功则会年复一年地使用。不过，由于这样的树洞并非随处可得，故有可能会限制繁殖的配偶数量。一般而言，巨嘴鸟钟爱的洞为木质良好、开口宽度刚好使成鸟钻入，洞深17厘米-2米。
当然，树干根部附近若有合适的洞穴，也会吸引通常营巢于高处的种类将巢营于近地面处。如巨嘴鸟会营巢于地上的白蚁穴或泥岸中。小型的巨嘴鸟种类通常占用啄木鸟的旧巢，有时甚至会驱逐现有的主人。在许多巨嘴鸟种类中，某种程度的凿穴是它们繁殖行为的重要组成部分。
巢内无衬材，一窝1-5枚卵，产于木屑上或由回吐的种籽组成的粗糙层面上——随着营巢的进展，这一层会越积越厚。光滑的白卵即堆于未衬里的穴中，大约16天孵化；孵出的雏鸟全身赤裸，至少须经3个星期才能睁眼，孵后雏鸟则需要50天以上，幼鸟此后便独立栖息于叶簇中开始过自己的生活。
