文学是语言文字的艺术，是社会文化的一种重要表现形式，是对美的体现。

文学作品是作家用独特的语言艺术表现其独特的心灵世界的作品，离开了这样两个极具个性特点的独特性就没有真正的文学作品。一个杰出的文学家就是一个民族心灵世界的英雄。文学代表一个民族的艺术和智慧。文学，是一种将语言文字用于表达社会生活和心理活动的学科，属社会意识形态范畴。

根据创作量与市场IP价值程度，主要的文学五大体裁为：诗歌、散文、剧本、剧小说、小说。

在近代：诗歌与散文是创作量是最多的，当时的创作家有鲁迅、老舍、矛盾等等。

在现代：剧本、剧小说、小说的创作量是最多的。剧本在影视剧的出品中，是最基层的，也是对创作者扶持最高的，所以现代的小说家，大多不但会小说创作，也会剧本的创作，有时也会直接参与剧本的编辑小组里。

有的作家直接写剧小说，既可以出版小说市场，也为了方便以后直接剧本化。但是剧小说很难写，又要有一定质量，还要兼顾到剧本，所以写剧小说的大多是名气作家，不担心没有影视公司买。

而一般作家少有影视公司买，也不想费时费力，就直接写小说来的方便，当然剧情好的话就另当别论了。而小说，在网络上写的是比较多的。
