From:write down your e-mail address To:Lucy@yahoo.comDate: August 1th, 2013Subject: Introduction of Chinese HolidaysDear Lucy, Thank you for telling me so many interesting things about you and America. It’s my honor to introduce some Chinese Holidays to you, and I hope you will enjoy it.There are a lot of holidays and festivals during the year in China. They can be roughly divided into two categories, official and traditional. Official Chinese holidays include New Year’s Day on January 1st, International Women’s Day on March 8th, Tree Planting Day on March 12th, International Labor Day on May 1st, Youth Day on May 4th, Children’s Day on June 1st, the CCP’s Birthday on July 1st, Army’s Day on August 1st, Teacher’s Day on September 10th, National Day on October 1st, and so on. However, the traditional Chinese holidays follow a unique lunar calendar. The biggest and most celebrated traditional holiday is Spring Festival, also called the Chinese New Year, which falls on the 1st of the 1st lunar month. It’s the start of a new lunar year and the time for family reunion. Lantern Festival, which is on the 15th of the 1st lunar month, features lantern exhibits, lion and dragon dances and eating tangyuan. Qing Ming is a day dedicated to the dear departed, so tidying up ancestor’s tombs is major activity. Dragon Date Festival is on the 5th of the 5th lunar month, on which day people eat zongzi, a kind of bamboo-leave rice dumpling, and taking part in dragon boat contest. Among all the Chinese traditional festivals, Mid-Autumn Festival on 15th of the 8th lunar month is second to the Chinese New Year in significance. The moon is at its fullest on this day. The whole family will get together to enjoy the beautiful moon, while feasting on delicious food, fruit and moon-cakes. So, if possible, I hope you can visit China and experience the holidays by yourself. When talking about the Chinese children, I have to say they are too busy in doing their homework. Even in their spare time, most of they have to take other lectures, such as learning how to play piano or taking BEC training course. In summer holidays, schools will organize the students to take a trip, but usually the students are required to write down their feelings and submit the articles after the trip. It seems that after class the American children are more happy and more freely than the Chinese children. Are you agree?I look forward to your opinions.Best wishes to you.Yours sincerely,XX
