'flying in the sky' of course is correct.but 'soaring in the sky' is even bettersoar 飞翔fly 飞

in 与 through 本质是不同的，in 为静态 through 为动态。in the air 隐约有”在空中{悬着}“的逻辑：through the air 则为动态，为”穿越“的感觉。故本质上二者是不相等的。不过有时在英译汉时，汉语不是很强调这些。
