如果你是大学部的学生，正确的作法是叫Professor + last name 或是 Dr. + last name，而不要叫 first name。对于研究所学生，在正式场合，特别是在email里面，应该是要叫 Dr. + last name，通常不会有错。tutor：较为常用，大概就像我们上学时课后的辅导老师；supervisor：一般论文老师就叫supervisor；advisor：和老师关系不大，一般是什么顾问、参谋之类的。personal看情况，不加都没关系。

你的导师是中文母语者，这时候你就要小心点了，如果你称呼其它美国老师是用 first name （在他们的允许下），这不代表你就可以直接称呼用你导师的 first name 来称呼他。虽然在美国，用 first name 称呼老师也不算太过奇怪的事，但这一套并不一定适用於以中文为母语者的老师。如果你与老师说中文的话，用中文说「姓+ 老师」是比较传统的作法。
