The hero of the story is a little girl named Dorothy. She holds a dog and lives in the middle of the Kansas prairie with her uncle Henry and sister-in-law em.

Because of a tornado, she and her little dog were swept into a strange world. They went to find the immortal and let themselves go home.

On the way, she met "the scarecrow without brain", "the tin man without heart" and "the lion without courage". They became friends.

英语翻译技巧：
第一、省略翻译法
这与最开始提到的增译法相反，就是要求你把不符合汉语，或者英语的表达的方式、思维的习惯或者语言的习惯的部分删去，以免使所翻译出的句子沉杂累赘。
第二、合并法
合并翻译法就是把多个短句子或者简单句合并到一起，形成一个复合句或者说复杂句，多出现在汉译英的题目里出现，比如最后会翻译成定语从句、状语从句、宾语从句等等。
这是因为汉语句子里面喜欢所谓的“形散神不散”，即句子结构松散，但其中的语意又是紧密相连的，所以为了表达出这种感觉，汉语多用简单句进行写作。而英语则不同，它比较强调形式，结构严谨，所以会多用复杂句、长句。因此，汉译英时还需要注意介词、连词、分词的使用。
第三、拆分法
当然，英译汉的时候，就要采取完全相反的战术——拆分法，即把一个长难句细细拆分为一个个小短句、简单句，并适当补充词语，是句子通顺。最后，注意还需要按照汉语习惯调整语序，达到不仅能看懂而且不拗口的目标。
第四、插入法
就是把不能处理的句子，利用括号、双逗号等插入到所翻译的句子中，不过这种方法多用在笔译里面，口译用的非常少。

Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas until a cyclone arrives, and picks her, her house, and her dog up and deposits them in the land of Oz. Things in Oz are strange and beautiful, but Dorothy just wants to get back home. She's helped by the Good Witch of the North, but she's also in trouble with the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks revenge for the death of her sister; the Wicked Witch of the East, for which she blames Dorothy. When a nasty neighbor tries to have her dog put to sleep, Dorothy takes her dog Toto, to run away. A cyclone appears and carries her to the magical land of Oz. Wishing to return, she begins to travel to the Emerald City where a great wizard lives. On her way she meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who desperately needs courage. They all hope the Wizard of Oz will help them, before the Wicked Witch of the West catches up with them.

Dorothy and her dog Toto live happily with Dorothy’s aunt until, one day, a great storm whisks Dorothy and Toto, along with their house, off to a faraway place. The house lands on, and kills, the Bad Witch of the East, but Dorothy is just eager to get home. The Good Witch tells her that only the wise old Wizard of Oz is able to get her back to her family. Dorothy and Toto set off along the yellow road to the Wizard. They meet a brainless scarecrow, a heartless tin-man and a cowardly lion on the way and all three decide to ask the Wizard to solve their problems too. Before the Wizard will grant their wishes, however, they have to kill the Bad Witch of the West, which Dorothy finally manages to do, thus making all their wishes come true. The Oz story has become a classic because it blends elements of traditional magic,such as witches,a Kansas cyclone, a scarecrow, and a man made of tin. In the end,Dorothy and her animals got what they need.We--viewers--also finish our wonderful tour and realize the dreams.
