翻译需要掌握增译法和减译法。就以中英为例，这两种文学语言有不一样的是诶模式，语言习惯性，表达形式。而论文翻译多涉及长短句，如果在翻译过程中，不对句子成分进行相应的增删，会使得译文不完整，造成一定的阅读难度。
总得来说，增译法的目的就是确保译文翻译的句子结构详细。减译法就是通过删除不符总体目标语的思维模式，语言习惯和表达形式的词，防止译文冗长。
注意事项
在汉语中，定语修饰语和状语修饰语常常置于被修饰语之前，而英文中，很多修饰语常常置于被修饰语之后，因而在做论文翻译过程中，需要把全文的词序重新排列。颠倒法一般用于英译中，就是把英文长句依照中文习惯进行替换，以符合现代汉语论理叙述顺序。
通俗来讲就是在论文翻译全过程中使译文翻译合乎总体目标语的描述方法，方式和习惯性而对原句的词类，句式和语态展开变换。比如把专有名词变换成代词，修饰词，形容词等，或者把主语变成状语，定语，宾语，也或者是把并列句变成复合句。
把状语从句变成定语从句，又或者是把主动语态变成被动语态等，这里，知行翻译强调一点，不管怎么转换，前提条件就是忠实于原文，不得背离原意。
