In recent years, the introduction of social media such as facebook, QQ and microblog has changed the means through which people make friends and keep contact.

Especially amongst the younger generation, such social network has gained enormously popularity that literally everyone are under peer pressure to register to avoid being labelled as "old-fashioned" or "uncool".

In spite of the prejudice held by the older generation, which surely is because they find technology is updated too fast for them to adapt to, the social media is gradually accepted by the main stream society as its ever-growing stock price is an apparent index of its prosperity.

The strength of social media is undisputable through which you will have all sorts of communication tools at your disposal.

For example, you can view your best friend's online activities whenever you want, you can showcase your fancy photos and expect compliments from total strangers, you can even find the profile of an old friend whom you have lost contact with for a long time.

According to many social media fanatics' claim, one day in the future making contact in the virtual world will completely replace any physical form of communication and become the orthodoxy. Though I hold a different view personally, it does prove how much the world has changed since the invention of global network.

Social media addiction, try not to treat it as a taboo subject, is another disturbing condition closely associated with the proliferation of social media.

Many adolescents or young adults check their cellphone for QQ or WEIBO messages literally every minute in spite of themselves,  this obsession distract them from their work and study, lowers their productivity and if untreated, can have profound impact on their life.

Social media, as a new and not yet full explored subject, has certainly attracted many public curiosity and attention. I believe it is in our best interest to tread carefully, take full advantage of its convenience while avoid getting into obsession whenever possible.
