“起立”的意思是“站起来”，英语翻译成Standup当然没有问题。问题是中国课堂上用的“起立”在类似的英语国家环境中人们通常用Allrise而不是Standup。Standup是个祈使句，多用于命令、指导一类的语言表达。比如，军队长官让士兵站起来说“Standup！”，监狱狱卒命令犯人站起来也说“Standup！”。懂得祈使句的人都知道，祈使句省略掉的主语是You。在课堂上班长用Standup就不合适了。Youstandup!的话，自己要不要站起来？Allrise!不是祈使句，而是完整的陈述句。All是名词，意思是“所有（在场的）人”，做作句子的主语；rise是动词作句子的谓语。Allrise！才是“起立”的正确英文表达。
