Situated in the south central area of Guangdong, the city is on the east bank of the Zhujiang estuary, south of Guangzhou, north of Shenzhen. It is a strategic location in the middle of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong economic corridor. The land area of the city is 2,465 square kilometers and the total population is almost 6.48 million. Dongguan is one the fastest growing cities in China. Since 1979, the average GDP growth rate has been over 20% and the current Engel Coefficient of residents is 27.2%. Dongguan has developed from an agricultural county into an international city famous for its manufacturing within 20 years. The comprehensive economic strength of Dongguan ranked 12th in China and it was awarded as “The National Exemplary City for its Vegetation”, “The National Exemplary Sanitation City”, “The National Excellence in Tourism”, “The National Basketball City”, “The Most Charming City of China”, and “The Most Economically Dynamic City in China”.
