多金属氧酸盐polyoxometalate, 简称POM,是由简单含氧酸盐在一定pH条件下缩合脱水生产的,仅由一种含氧酸盐缩合脱水得到的POM称为同多酸,而由两种或者两种以上含氧酸盐间脱水生成的POM 称为杂多酸。POM的最经典结构类型是Keggin结构和Dawson结构,例如,H3PW12O40和H6P2MO18O62(略去结晶水)等。 多金属氧酸盐是一类由金属(一般为过渡金属)、氧等组成的化合物,分为同核和异核两类。一般金属钨和钼形成的较多。又分为饱和和不饱和。如:12-钨磷酸钾,11-钼硅酸钠,前者为饱和杂多酸盐,后者为不饱和杂多酸盐。大多数过渡金属都能形成多金属氧酸盐类化合物。
