1、陆谷孙教授1962年毕业于复旦大学外文系英美语言专业，他是著名教育家、翻译家、散文家、双语词典编纂家、莎士比亚学者，国家级教学名师、首届全国师德标兵、上海市哲学社会科学学术贡献奖获得者，《英汉大词典》、《中华汉英大词典》主编，复旦大学杰出教授、复旦大学外国语言文学学院首任院长。

2、林语堂的身份不止有翻译家和作家，他还是学者、语言学家，甚至还是新道家代表人物。他还喜欢搞发明，比如发明中文打字机，他另有若干项小发明，亦获得专利，其中一件就是可以挤出牙膏的牙刷。
林语堂所求学和执教的院校，都是非常厉害的：毕业于圣约翰大学，获得哈佛硕士学位，回国后去清华、北大、厦大任教，1945年赴新加坡筹建南洋大学，任校长，后来又任教于香港中文大学。而且他著作等身，写出了一系列小说和文集，他还花费五年时间编写出了一部《林语堂当代汉英大词典》所有原稿自始至终他都一一过目、修改，并且一校再校。
