Every year on December 25, the birth of Jesus Christ, is celebrated and called Christmas.

每年的12月25日,是基督教徒纪念耶稣诞生的日子,称为圣诞节。

"Christmas" comes from the phrase "Christ Mass". A mass is a form of worship. Christmas is a religious festival. We take it as the birthday of Jesus, and to celebrate Christmas. This day, all over the world in Christian churches many hold special worship services. But there are many Christmas activities that have no religious relevance. For example, the exchanging of gifts and sending Christmas cards.

“圣诞节”这个名称是“基督弥撒”的缩字。弥撒是教会的一种礼拜仪式。耶诞节是一个宗教节。我们把它当作耶苏的诞辰来庆祝,因而又名耶诞节。这一天,全世界所有的基督教会都举行特别的礼拜仪式。但是有很多圣诞节的欢庆活动和宗教并无半点关联。如交换礼物,寄圣诞卡等。

圣诞节的由来或者起源(英文):

In order to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the following generations set December 25 as Christmas, and celebrated the birth of Jesus with annual mass.

The word Christmas comes from the United Kingdom in the 10th and 12th centuries. Its own meaning refers to "the mass of Christ", that is, "a meal for Christ." This ceremony is derived from the "Last Supper" of the New Testament.

The word "Christ's Mass" is a patchwork of Greek and Latin, because the Christ comes from the Greek language, and it means only the Jewish "anointed" and is extended to the savior; Mass, from Missa, Latin, meant a meeting, and it was extended to the church of Thanksgiving.

So sometimes abbreviated as "Xmas." This may be because X is similar to the Greek letter (Chi); is the first letter in the Greek word "Christ."

Some people think that this may be due to the rise of Western multiculturalism in recent years in order to respect people of other faiths in order to dilute the religious color of Christmas.

The Dutch name is similar to English, called Kerstmis, and is often shortened to Kerst. Christmas Spanish is called Navidad, Portuguese is called Natal, Polish is called Bo E Narodzenie, French is called Noël, Italian is called Natale, and Catalan is called Nadal, meaning "birth"., more clearly reflect the meaning of Christmas. In contrast, German is called Weihnachten, meaning "Holy night."
