严格意义上来说这其实并不是同一首歌，因为《Twinkle, twinkle, little star》这首英国儿歌翻译过来应该是《一闪一闪小星星》比较准确。当时这首英文儿歌传入中国时，由于种种时代和条件的限制，《Twinkle Twinkle Little Star》的英文歌词被错误翻译为了《一闪一闪亮晶晶》。旧版本的歌词除中心主旨和原文相同外，其余内容与原版英文并无任何关系。这个版本的歌词在国际上并不被主流文化所认可。
该儿歌的原版歌词为英国诗人Jane Taylor的诗集《育儿童谣》中的“一闪一闪小星星”诗歌。在Jane Taylor去世后，其妹妹为这首诗歌配以了莫扎特钢琴奏鸣曲KV.265的旋律。因为旋律简单明快，英文歌词童真雅致，朗朗上口，而成为世界范围内广为流传的英国儿歌。

《一闪一闪小星星》的音乐最早出现于1761年的法国童谣《啊！妈妈，我要告诉你》，后由伟大的音乐天才莫扎特改编为钢琴变奏曲KV.265，其旋律除主题外还配有十二段变奏。后来时间又过去了四十多年，在1806年，简.泰勒发表了名为《星星》的诗歌。
后由她的妹妹安妮收藏整理在诗集《育儿童歌》中，并对这首对偶形式的诗歌配以了莫扎特的旋律，于是这首广为流传的英国传统儿歌 《Twinkle Twinkle Little Star》 就这样诞生了。
