A young man asked Socrates the secret to success.

1、马云学英语

2.、邓亚萍学英语
邓亚萍说，开始的一两个月之内，根本听不懂老师在上面讲什么，我把老师所有写在黑板上的东西照抄一遍。回到家里以后，自己再翻字典，再看。每天的生活比较单调，上课时间是四个半小时。下了课还有很多作业，吃饭对我来说好像都很费事，中午休息的时间只有一个小时，我一般都不回宿舍，就是吃上午带去的三明治，然后看一会儿书。晚上经常吃的东西就是自己做的方便面条加青菜、西红柿和鸡蛋。几乎每天都要学习到12点才能睡觉。最后终于戴上了学士帽，在毕业典礼上，我用流利的英语向老师致词。
3、李阳学英语
英语不好的李阳为了学英语考过四级，于是他就天天跑到校园的空旷处去大喊英语。为了防止自己半途而废，李阳约了他们班学习最刻苦的一个同学每天中午一起去喊英语。在兰州大学的烈士亭，李阳和他的同学顶着凛冽的寒风，从1987年冬一直喊到1988年春。4个月的时间里，李阳复述了10多本英文原版书，背熟了大量四级考题。每天，李阳的口袋里装满了抄着各种英语句子的纸条，一有空就掏出来念叨一番，从宿舍到教室，从教室到食堂，李阳的嘴总是在不断地运动着。4个月下来，李阳的舌头不再僵硬，耳朵不再失灵，反应不再迟钝。在当年的英语四级考试中，李阳只用50分钟，就答完了试卷，并且成绩高居全校第二名（第一名半年后参加了李阳亲自教授的 口语培训 班）。一个考试总不及格的李阳突然成为一个英语高手，这一消息轰动了兰州大学。

使得他可以结交杨致远、孙正义甚至比尔克林顿这样的人物；使得他可以穿梭在达沃斯论坛，让大家记住阿里巴巴。这些都促成了马云的国际化视野，使他能弄来资金，做自己想做的事情。
马云说，自己一直学习不好，但仍有得意之处，那就是英语。
三、邓亚萍：
1997年退役进入清华大学，2001年拿下学士学位，同年9月进入英国诺丁汉大学，2002年12月12日，获硕士学位，同年进入英国剑桥大学经济学专业攻读博士学位。
邓亚萍用求学路上一路奋斗的故事讲述了一个世界冠军求学的悬梁岁月……清华：从写26个英文字母开始“临近退役时，我便开始设计自己将来的路，有人认为运动员只能在自己熟悉的运动项目中继续工作，而我就是要证明：运动员不仅能够打好比赛，同时也能做好其他事情。哪天我不当运动员了，我的新起点也就开始了。”邓亚萍说。
“1996年底，我被萨老提名为国际奥委会运动委员会委员。我明白，这既是国际奥委会的重用和信任，也是一次严峻的挑战。奥委会的办公语言是英语(论坛)和法语。
然而，这时我的英语基础几乎是零，法语也是一窍不通。面对如此重要的工作岗位和自己外语水平的反差，我心里急得火上房。”1996年亚特兰大奥运会结束后，邓亚萍以英语专业本科生的身份初进清华时，她的英文几乎是一张白纸，既没有英文的底子，更别说有口语交流的能力。“怀着兴奋而又忐忑的心情迈进清华大学。老师想看看我的水平——你写出26个英文字母看看。我费了一阵心思总算写了出来，看着一会儿大写、一会儿小写的字母，我有些不好意思——老师，就这个样子了。但请老师放心，我一定努力！”“上课时老师的讲述对我而言无异于天书，我只能尽力一字不漏地听着、记着，回到宿舍，再一点点翻字典，一点点硬啃硬记。
我给自己制定了学习计划：一切从零开始，坚持三个第一—从课本第一页学起，从第一个字母、第一个单词背起；
一天必须保证14个小时的学习时间，每天5点准时起床，读音标、背单词、练听力，直到正式上课；晚上整理讲义，温习功课，直到深夜12点。
由于全身心地投入学习，邓亚萍几乎完全取消了与朋友的聚会及无关紧要的社会活动，就连给父母打电话的次数也大大减少。
为了提高自己的听力和会话能力，她除了定期光顾语音室，还买来多功能复读机。由于总是一边听磁带，一边跟着读。
同学们总是跟她开玩笑：“亚萍，你成天读个不停，当心嘴唇磨出茧子呀！”“但我相信：没有超人的付出，就不会有超人的成绩。这也是我多年闯荡赛场的切身体验。”学习是紧张的，每天的课程都排得满满的。除学习之外，邓亚萍每周还要三次往返几十里路到国家队训练基地进行训练，疲劳程度可想而知。“每天清晨起床时，我都会发现枕头上有许多头发，梳头的时候也会有不少头发脱落下来。
对此我并不太在意，倒是教练和队友见到我十分惊讶：‘小邓，你怎么了？’我说：‘没什么，可能是学习的用脑和打球的用脑不一样吧。
虽然都是一个‘苦’字，但此时的我却有不一样的感受：以前当运动员，训练累得实在动不了，只要一听到加油声，一咬牙，挺过来了；遇到了难题、关坎，教练一点拨，通了；
比赛遇到困难，观众一阵吼声，劲头上来了，转危为安。但读书呢，常常要一个人孤零零面壁苦思，那种清苦、孤独是另一种折磨，没意志、没恒心是坚持不下去的。”为了更快地掌握英语，几位英语老师建议邓亚萍到国外去学习一段时间，在他们的热心帮助下，经清华大学和国家体育总局批准，1998年初，刚在清华读了几个月的邓亚萍作为交换生被送到英国剑桥大学突击英语。

你的梦想有多大?
I used to watch her from my kitchen window, she seemed so small as she muscled her way through the crowd of boys on the playground. The school was across the street from our home and I would often watch the kids as they play edduring recess. A sea of children, and yet to me, she stood out from them all.
我以前常常从厨房的窗户看到她穿梭于操场上的一群男孩子中间，她显得那么矮小。学校在我家的街对面，我可以经常看到孩子们在下课时间打球。尽管有一大群的孩子，但我觉得她跟其他的孩子截然不同。
I remember the first day I saw her playing basketball. I watched in wonder as she ran circles around the other kids. She managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads and into the net. The boys always tried to stop her but no one could. I began to notice her at other times, basketball in hand, playing alone.She would practice dribbling and shooting over and over again, sometimes until dark.

Then she smiled and ran towards the court to recap the routine I had seen over and over again. Well, I had to give it to her―she was determined.I watched her through those junior high years and into high school. Every week,she led her varsity team to victory.

One day in her senior year, I saw her sitting in the grass, head cradled in her arms. I walked across the street and sat down in the cool grass beside her. Quietly I asked what was wrong. “Oh,nothing,” came a soft reply. “I am just too short.” The coach told her that at 5’5” she would probably never get to play for a top ranked team― much less offered a scholarship―so she should stop dreaming about college. She was heartbroken and I felt my own throat tighten as I sensed her disappointment. I asked her if she had talked to her dad about it yet.

He told her that if she really wanted to play for a good college, if she truly wanted a scholarship, that nothing could stop her except one thing ― her own attitude. He told her again, “If the dream is big enough, the factsdon't count.”

The next year, as she and her team went to the Northern CaliforniaChampionship game, she was seen by a college recruiter. She was indeed offered a scholarship, a full ride, to a Division 1, NCAA women's basketball team. She was going to get the college education that she had dreamed of and worked toward for all those years.
