中文“建筑”是一个多义词，它对应着英文三个词，分别是“Architecture”、“Building”和“Construction”，恰好是a、b、c打头的三个英文字母。Architecture我们称为建筑，而Building实际上是房子，Construction则多指施工。

有关“建筑”的英文：

根据牛津字典，Architecture被解释为“art and science of building”，即“建造房子的艺术与科学”，或是“design or style of building”，即“房子的设计与风格”。我国著名建筑学家梁思成先生就曾经说过，“建筑是科学与技术与艺术的结合”。

Building一词在英文中，主要是指实体或构体，强调物质性和功能属性。而Architecture是一个概念或集合，强调艺术性和人文属性，同时还可以表示一门学科（建筑学）。

而Construction在牛津词典的解释是“the process or method of building or making something, especially roads, buildings, bridges, etc”，即“建造或制造某物的过程或方法，尤指道路、建筑物、桥梁等”。例如，“建筑工人”可译为“Construction workers”可译为“Construction company”。
