1、侧重点不同
exhibition 是在集市和庙会基础上发展起来的现代展览形式，也是被最广泛使用的展览名称，通常作为各种形式的展览会的总称。
exposition多数情况是针对工业或商业产品的展示，有“宣传性质的展览会”的含义。
2、起源不同
exhibition：14世纪初期进入英语，直接源自古法语的exibicion，意为展示；最初源自晚期拉丁语的exhibitionem，意为展示出来。
exposition起源于法国，是法文的展览会。在近代史上，法国政府第一个举办了以展示、宣传国家工业实力的展览会，由于这种展览会不做贸易 ，主要是为了宣传。
3、规模不同
exhibition 的规模，可大可小，有些小型画廊的个人画展也可以被称为art exhibitions。也有很大规模的，上万人都会去参加的展览会，比如中国明朝瓷器展 an exhibition of Chinese ceramics from the Ming dynasty。
exposition 更是有博览会的概念，如2010年举办的上海世博会的英文名称就是 Shanghai World Expo 2010, 中间的 Expo 是 exposition 的缩写。

Exhibition没有缩写Exposition有缩写， 缩写是Expo两个都是展览的意思但是在范畴上略有区别 之前那位仁兄回答说exhibition的缩写是exhibit那是大错特错。exhibition是展会的意思，是名词。exhibit是展览、展出的意思，是动词。
