《断背山》是由李安执导，希斯·莱杰、杰克·吉伦哈尔、琳达·卡德里尼、安娜·法瑞丝、安妮·海瑟薇、米歇尔·威廉姆斯主演的爱情片，于2005年12月9日在美国上映。该片改编自安妮·普鲁克斯所著的同名短篇小说，讲述了在1963年至1981年的美国怀俄明州，两个男人之间存在着复杂情爱关系的故事。

BrokebackMountain断背山是翻译,断臂山是隐喻. 中国古代把男人和男人相爱称为"断袖",所以"断臂"也就暗指男人和男人的爱情电影. 《断背山》故事发生的背景是美国怀俄明州，“BrokebackMountain”是美国怀俄明州一个真实存在的地名。 有人指出遵照英文原名《BrokebackMountain》应直译为《断背山》，也有人认为《断臂山》更确切地诠释了“手足情深”之意。 “背迷”：《断背山》遵从原意 影片的英语原名为《BrokebackMountain》，根据字面意思，“broke”有“折断”之意，“back”则有“背部”之意，因此有人提出，直译成《断背山》不仅准确，而且更具悲凉意味，更重要的是李安日前在台湾、香港宣传影片时选择的也是《断背山》。至于为何有《断臂山》的译法，他们认为可能因为“臂”是多音字，有“bei”的发音，所以有人根据发音，以讹传讹将其译成了《断臂山》。 “臂迷”：《断臂山》体现手足情 《断臂山》的故事感人至深，很多影迷表示，《断臂山》绝对不是错译，恰恰是导演李安心中的意思，中文把“兄弟”比作“手足”，失去兄弟如断手足， “断臂”正是取自此意。至于《断背山》，他们觉得有点毛骨悚然，而且从中国的文化角度看，难以让人联想到“兄弟”间的深厚情感。 专家：直译还是“断背”好 对于“断臂”和“断背”的争论，著名翻译家钱绍昌表达了自己对《断背山》的倾向，“其实brokeback一词并不规范，应该是 brokenback，但美国地名的很多用词都并不规范，这与历史背景也有关。从片名看，完全该译成《断背山》，back并没有手臂之意。”同时，钱教授也认为之所以有《断臂山》一说，很可能就是当初传错了。
