英文compare、comparative、comparison主要从词性不同、含义不同和用法不同来区分。

1、词性不同

compare：可以作动词比较，也可以为名词。

comparative：是形容词，相对的的意思。

comparison：是名词。比较； 对比；相比。

2、含义不同

compare：

v.    比较; 对比; 与…类似(或相似); 表明…与…相似; 将…比作;

n.    比较;

例如：Compare this new TV set with the old one, you will see which is better.

将这台新电视机与旧电视机一比，你就会看出哪一台更好一些。

comparative：是相对的的意思。例如：The task was accomplished with comparative ease.

相对而言，任务完成得比较轻松。

comparison：比较； 对比；相比。例如：Its recommendations are based on detailed comparisons between the public and private sectors。

建议是建立在对国营部门与私营部门进行详细比较的基础上的。

3、用法不同

compare：可以直接+名词的复数，比如：compare A with/to/and B

comparative：作为形容词，后面一般跟名词。例如：a comparative success/相对而言的成功

comparison：一般用于 in/by comparison with/to/one another

词语用法：

1、compare with与compare to的区别:compare with 的意思是“把……跟……比较”，一般用于两个同类事物之间，着重区别。compare to的意思是“把……比作……看待”，一般用于两个不同性质的事物比较。

2、当compare用作不及物动词时，解释为“比的上”，“值得比较”，只能用with，不能用to；否定形式可表示为not to be compared with/to；compare together的表达中，together是多余的。

词义辨析：

contrast, compare with, compare, compare to这组词都有“比较”的意思，其区别是：

1、contrast 指比较两个或更多东西之间的差异，侧重不同点。

2、compare with 指“把……用……作比较”以便找出差异或好坏。

3、compare 侧重比较两个或更多东西的异同优劣，强调相同或类似之处。

4、compare to 指两物有类似或相似之处，从而“把(一物)比作(另一物)。”
