He who lies and cheats is dishonest.: Those who gain fortunes not by hard labour but by other means is dishonest.Honesty is a good virtue. If you are honest all the time,you’ll be trusted and respected by others. A liar is always looked down upon and regarded as a black sheep by the people around. Once you lie, people will never believe you even if you speak the truth.However, in the tide of commodity economy today, it seems that more and more people believe in money at the sacrifice of honesty. To them, among such things as health, beauty, m6ney, intelligence, honesty, reputation and talent, honesty is the only thing that can be east away. They don’t understand or pretend not to understand that honesty is the biggest fortune humans own, and that it is the prerequisite for doing everything well. I think these people areto be pitied.In short, honesty is gold. Honest, your reputation will become great;dishonest, your name will be spoiled and your personality degraded. Therefore, we should never make such an excuse as "A little dishonesty is only a trifle thing. We should eradicate immediately the seed of dishonesty once it is sowed in our minds.

诚信的重要性The Importance of PromisePeople always attach the importance to the promise, they hate people who break their promise. I remember once a time, my friend asked me to go to see the movie with her, I said yes without hesitation. But on that day, I forgot about the date, I just woke up late and then played computer games in my bedroom. My friends called me, she asked why did I disappear, I said I was sleeping at home, she became very angry, until then did I think about our date. I felt so sorry, I break my promise for the first time, I realize I did the very bad thing. Even though I apologized for many times, my friend was still angry with me. I learn the lesson, promise is very important, we must keep it, other people will see through our personality to decide what kind of person we are.人们总是赋予承诺很大的重要性，他们厌恶那些不守信用的人。我记得有一次，我的朋友叫我去和她一起看电影，我毫不犹豫就答应了。但是到了那天，我忘记了我们的约会，我很晚才起床，然后呆在房间里玩电脑游戏。我的朋友打电话给我，她问我为什么我没有出现，我说我在家里睡觉，她很生气，直到到时我才想起我们的约会。我感到很抱歉，我第一次失信了，我做了很不好的事情。虽然我多次道歉，但是我的朋友当时仍在生气。我学到了教训，诚信是很重要的，我们必须遵守，别人会通过我们的人格来决定我们是什么样的人。

The importance of HONESTYTo be deemed "honest" is to be "held in honor," to be respected and judged "decent" and "creditable." The honest person is one who "deals fairly and uprightly in speech and act. . .who is sincere, truthful, candid. . .someone who will not lie or cheat or steal," (O.E.D.) and so, a person who may be trusted.* Honesty in this sense of the word then, is a virtue that rewards its possessor.For the person who is part of an academic community, honesty in academic work engenders trust and ensures credibility and authority. At Monmouth College, where high value is placed upon learning through the free exchange of ideas, our academic community must be able to trust to the truthfulness, sincerity, and candor of its working members. Not just the reputation, but the very continued existence of the academic community depends upon adherence to standards that authenticate our processes of education. And so at Monmouth College, in order to sustain the credibility and authority of our educational aims, we describe and enforce standards of academic honesty.To put this matter another way, as money is the currency of the banking industry, ideas are the "currency" of higher education. While a family may be rather casual about money and financial records at home, it would be a very serious matter if employees of a bank failed to keep detailed and accurate records or did not insist upon accounting for all cash. Such oversights in a bank might even be deemed criminal. Similarly, while it may have been acceptable for you to be rather casual in your use of ideas before coming to college, now that you are at Monmouth you are expected to be careful in accurately representing ideas as your own and in accounting for the sources of ideas that you borrow from others.To be honest may also mean, in an apparently more trivial sense, to be adjudged "neat" and "tidy."
