There is a folk story about the origin of Lantern riddles.Lantern Festival, emperor city night, Spring Festival Lantern Festival, people miscellaneous display, poetry riddles in the lamp, reflected in the candle, listed in the thoroughfare, let people guess, so called "lantern riddles". Guessing becomes a lantern riddle, and there's an interesting story. Legend has it that, very early, there was a rich man surnamed Hu, known as "Smiling Tiger". This smiling tiger dislikes poverty and loves wealth.
A poor scholar named Wang Shao in the village decided to fight the smiling tiger.
One year, when the Lantern Festival was approaching, every household was busy making lanterns and Wang Shao had a happy day. On the night of Lantern Festival, Wang Shao put out a lantern and went to the street. See this lantern tied up big and bright, especially is also inscribed on a poem. Wang Shao came to the door of the smiling tiger and held the Lantern high, which attracted many people to look around. The smiling tiger also rushed to the lantern and saw four Poems Inscribed on the lantern.
Head pointed and body white as silver, scales do not have half a centimeter.Eyes grow to the buttocks, clothes do not recognize people.
Looking at the tiger with a smiling face, he was so angry that he screamed, "Good boy, dare to scold the master!" shouted, and ordered his family to grab the lantern. Wang Shao picked up the lantern and said with a grin, "Sir, how can I see that you are scolding?" He said with a tiger's face and a smile, "How did you write that lantern?"
"This is not to scold me who I am scolding?" Wang Shao said with a grin, "Oh, my Lord has committed suspicion. My four poems are a mystery. The answer to the mystery is "needle". Do you want to think about it?"The smiling tiger thought,"No way!"He just stared angrily and turned around and ran away in confusion. The people around him saw it and laughed happily.
