节奏布鲁斯R&B又称节奏怨曲，是一种首先非裔美国人艺术家所演奏，并融合了爵士乐、福音音乐和布鲁斯音乐的音乐形式。节奏布鲁斯R&B一般又包括另类节奏布鲁斯Alternative R&B、当代节奏布鲁斯Contemporary R&B、灵魂乐Soul Music、放克Funk、都市音乐Urban等。

摇滚Rock是由布鲁斯音乐、乡村音乐及其他音乐形式演进而来。摇滚乐产生出许多下属类型，比如布鲁斯摇滚乐Blues Rock、迷幻摇滚Psychedelic Rock、独立摇滚Indie Rock、软摇滚Soft Rock、硬摇滚Hard Rock、前卫摇滚Progressive Rock、另类摇滚Alternative rock等等。

嘻哈(说唱) Hip Hop是一种跟着伴奏、带着韵律吟诵（饶舌）的音乐风格。该文化包含了司众（饶舌）、控盘（刮碟）、歇段舞（霹雳舞）和涂鸦等几种街头艺术。嘻哈Hip Hop又包括西岸说唱West Coast Hip Hop、东岸说唱 East Coast Hip Hop、中西部说唱 Midwest Hip Hop、老派说唱 Old-school Hip Hop、另类说唱 Alternative Hip Hop等等。

音乐风格是指在音乐范畴中各种音乐要素——曲调、节奏、音色、力度、和声、织体和曲式等富有个性的结合方式，但主要指的是曲调。这些要素的特殊结合方式能产生一种显著的或独特的音响。在世界的某一地域或大约同一时期的某些作曲家所创作的作品经常有相似的风格，但是各个作曲家运用同样的音乐语言也能形成个性化的表现方式。

1、古典音乐（classical music）；古典音乐有广义、狭义之分。

广义是指那些从西方中世纪开始至今的、在欧洲主流文化背景下创作的西方古典音乐，主要因其复杂多样的创作技术和所能承载的厚重内涵而有别于通俗音乐和民间音乐。狭义指古典主义音乐，是1750－1820年这一段时间的欧洲主流音乐，又称维也纳古典乐派。此乐派三位最著名的作曲家是海顿、莫扎特和贝多芬。

2、宗教音乐（Religious music）；宗教音乐，又称圣乐。它既传达上帝给人们的启示，又表现信徒对上帝的崇敬、赞美、信靠和祈求。宗教音乐是欧洲艺术音乐的源头。在18世纪以前，欧洲音乐主要以教会音乐为主，而教会音乐则以圣咏为主。

3、流行音乐（Pop music）；流行音乐是根据英语Popular Music翻译过来的。流行音乐准确的概念应为商品音乐，是指以盈利为主要目的而创作的音乐。它是商业性的音乐消遣娱乐以及与此相关的一切“工业”现象。（见前苏联《音乐百科词典》1990年版）它的市场性是主要的，艺术性是次要的。

4、重金属音乐（heavy metal music）； 重金属音乐最早是被一些民众认为是“硬摇滚”演变过来的，其实硬摇滚与重金属通常不太容易区分，不同的人有不同的区分方法。

有人认为70年代以前的叫硬摇滚，70年代以后的叫重金属，又有大多数人通过历史的角度认为他们不属于同一种类。布鲁斯味道很浓，后来传到不同的地方就形成了不同的流派。音乐上十分具有“重量”性，给听者一种歇斯底里狂躁的感觉与别的音乐有着明显的区别所以把这种音乐取名为“重金属”。

5、摇滚乐（Rock music）；摇滚乐，英文全称为Rock and Roll，兴起于20世纪50年代中期，主要受到节奏布鲁斯、乡村音乐和叮砰巷音乐的影响发展而来。早期摇滚乐很多都是黑人节奏布鲁斯的翻唱版，因而节奏布鲁斯是其主要根基。

6、爵士乐（jazz）；爵士乐（Jazz），于19世纪末20世纪初源于美国，诞生于南部港口城市新奥尔良，音乐根基来自布鲁斯（Blues）和拉格泰姆（Ragtime）。爵士乐讲究即兴，以具有摇摆特点的Shuffle节奏为基础，是非洲黑人文化和欧洲白人文化的结合。

7、蓝调（Blues）； 蓝调（英文：Blues，解作“蓝色”，又音译为布鲁斯）是一种基于五声音阶的声乐和乐器音乐，它的另一个特点是其特殊的和声。蓝调起源于过去美国黑人奴隶的灵魂乐、赞美歌、劳动歌曲、叫喊和圣歌。蓝调中使用的“蓝调之音”和启应的演唱方式都显示了它的西方来源。

8、电子音乐（electronic music）；电子音乐，是使用电子乐器以及电子音乐技术来制作的音乐；而创作或表演这类音乐的音乐家则称为电子音乐家。

一般而言，可使用电子机械技术与使用电子技术制作的声音来区别。使用电子机械制造声音的设备有电传簧风琴、汉门式电风琴与电吉他；而纯粹的电子声音制造设备则有特雷门、声音合成器与电脑。

9、朋克（Punk）；又译为庞克，诞生于七十年代中期，一种源于六十年代车库摇滚和前朋克摇滚的简单摇滚乐。它是最原始的摇滚乐——由一个简单悦耳的主旋律和三个和弦组成，经过演变，朋克已经逐渐脱离摇滚，成为一种独立的音乐。

10、 灵魂乐（Soul music）；灵魂乐是1950年代发源于美国的一种结合了节奏蓝调和福音音乐的音乐流派。紧扣节奏、拍掌、即兴形体动作，是其重要特征。
